General Manager Risk - Members and Enterprise Partners

Job Description

As a General Manager Risk – Members and Enterprise Partners, you'll provide strategic risk leadership across the Members, Workplaces and Enterprise Partners portfolios while working closely with Executive Committee members, Enterprise Leaders, and other senior stakeholders. You'll play a critical role in providing independent oversight, constructive challenge and expert advice that supports effective management of current, emerging and future risks.
You'll also lead key enterprise risk services, including governance frameworks, assurance activities, risk culture initiatives, and enterprise risk reporting. Through your leadership, you'll help strengthen organisational resilience, enable risk-informed decision making, and support the delivery of strong outcomes for members.
This role is a permanent position based in either Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne.
Responsibilities
Day to day, you'll:
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for risk management that supports organisational strategy, member outcomes and effective management of emerging risks.
- Provide strategic Line 2 oversight, independent challenge and expert risk advice across multiple business portfolios and transformational initiatives.
- Partner with senior executives and business leaders to support risk-informed decision making and strengthen stakeholder collaboration.
- Lead enterprise risk reporting and provide forward-looking insights on risk trends, control effectiveness and emerging threats.
- Oversee the ongoing enhancement of risk governance, assurance, reporting and risk management frameworks.
- Champion a strong risk culture by building organisational capability, confidence and accountability.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team aligned to organisational values and strategic objectives.
Qualifications
It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. These non-negotiable skills and experience will also be key to your success:
- You have significant experience in risk management within superannuation or a highly regulated financial services environment.
- Your knowledge of APRA Prudential Standards, especially SPS 220, CPS 230 and CPS 234, along with ISO standards and other relevant frameworks, is strong and current.
- You'll bring demonstrated experience leading Line 2 assurance activities, including the development and delivery of assurance plans, control effectiveness reviews, thematic assessments and remediation oversight.
- You're experienced in building trusted senior stakeholder relationships, including mentoring, collaboration and engagement with executive leaders, industry peers and governance stakeholders.
- You have highly developed communication, consultation, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to constructively challenge senior leaders and apply sound judgement to complex risk scenarios.
- Your experience includes contributing to, or leading, risk transformation programs in complex financial services environments, including the uplift of risk frameworks, operating models, governance, reporting and assurance practices.
- You'll bring solid capability in risk reporting, including the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, insightful and actionable reporting for Executive, Board and Committee audiences.
- You're commercially astute,
with the ability to understand and influence commercial strategy while balancing risk and opportunity to support sustainable member outcomes.
- You demonstrate strong strategic thinking and thought leadership, with the ability to anticipate emerging risks and shape long-term risk strategy.
