The North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWQROC) represents 12 councils within the North West Queensland region, including Burke, Carpentaria, Cloncurry, Croydon, Doomadgee, Etheridge, Flinders, Kowanyama, McKinlay, Mornington Island, Mount Isa, and Richmond. The organisation supports regional collaboration by addressing shared challenges and opportunities. It works to enhance regional development, advocate for community needs, and foster resilience across the region. The organisation aims to improve outcomes for the communities it represents through creative and strategic initiatives.

Role Description

The Regional Waste Behaviour Change and Environmental Health Coordinator is a full-time hybrid role based in North West Queensland, with the option to work from home for part of the week. This role coordinates the planning and delivery of Environmental Health officer functions across NWQROC members, including food license inspections and investigations into environmental nuisances under relevant legislation, as well as coordinating the delivery of regional programs that encourage waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable resource use across NWQROC member councils.

Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health)



or other Environmental Health Australia (EHA) accredited course from a recognised tertiary institution, which is relevant to the tasks and responsibilities of the position.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation with an understanding of the context in which Environmental Health Services are delivered at a local government level.

An ability to conduct compliance inspections and follow through with the appropriate enforcement actions.

Demonstrated organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with a proven ability to balance competing workloads and deliver within deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Excellent standard of IT literacy and advanced computer and software skills.

Ability to work independently, flexibly and remotely – as needed.

Highspeed and reliable internet connection to host Teams meetings.

Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence.

Please note - Depending on location within the region, the applicant may be required to utilise their vehicle for travel to travel ports. All costs will be reimbursed as per the ATO motor vehicle and car expense rates.

Remuneration

Contracted position to 30 June 2028.

The NWQROC will be shortlisting and interviewing applicants as they are lodged.
