Food Safety Lead

For more than 30 years, Yumi's has been transforming real, natural ingredients into delicious dips and flavoursome vegetarian foods enjoyed by Australians every day. From humble beginnings in Melbourne, we've grown into one of Australia's leading fresh food brands, with sales exceeding $100 million and products stocked in major retailers nationwide.

Today, Yumi's forms part of George Weston Foods (GWF), one of Australia and New Zealand's largest food manufacturers, employing approximately 6,000 people across 60 sites. While we benefit from the strength and support of a global organisation, we proudly maintain the entrepreneurial spirit, agility and close-knit culture that has defined Yumi's from the beginning.

We're now looking for an experienced Food Safety Lead to join our Technical team at our Hallam manufacturing site.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for the practical application, maintenance and continuous improvement of Yumi's food safety programmes. As our Food Safety Lead, you'll play a critical role in ensuring our products, processes and site controls protect consumers, meet regulatory and customer expectations, and support operational excellence across the business.

Reporting to the Head of Technical, you'll partner closely with Operations, Quality, NPD, Engineering and Supply Chain teams to drive food safety standards, influence best practice and embed a strong food safety culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Food Safety Program Leadership

- Drive food safety standards and ensure practical application of controls throughout manufacturing operations
- Provide technical leadership on food safety investigations, corrective actions and verification activities

- Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen food safety performance and compliance

Validation & Risk Management

- Own process and product qualification activities
- Coordinate cleaning validation and verification programs
- Support food safety risk assessments and control measures across the site
- Ensure food safety controls are effectively incorporated into new products and process changes

Site Standards & Compliance

- Maintain and improve hygiene, zoning, allergen and microbiological monitoring programs
- Oversee physical contamination controls, pest management and GMP standards
- Coordinate internal food safety and GMP audits
- Support compliance with regulatory, customer and internal requirements

Supplier & Stakeholder Partnership

- Support the approved supplier program and food safety risk assessments
- Work collaboratively across Operations, Technical, Engineering, NPD and Supply Chain teams
- Engage with laboratories, auditors, service providers and suppliers where required
- Coach and support stakeholders to strengthen food safety capability and behaviours across the business

About You

You are a food safety professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, solutions‑focused approach. You're confident influencing on the factory floor, challenging respectfully when needed, and bringing others on the journey to improve standards and outcomes.

To be successful, you'll bring:

- Experience leading food safety programs within food manufacturing or a similar FMCG environment
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, allergen management, validation, hygiene controls and microbiological monitoring
- Experience supporting audits, corrective action programs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to translate technical requirements into practical operating standards
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across operational and technical teams
- A collaborative, evidence-based and commercially aware approach to problem‑solving

Highly Regarded

- Experience within chilled, ready-to-eat, dips or high‑care food manufacturing environments
- Exposure to retailer, customer, GFSI or external certification audits
- Experience with supplier approval, pest control, shelf‑life validation or cleaning validation programs
