The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Services Officer to use their spatial and data skills to make a meaningful contribution to private land conservation for the people of NSW.

Come and join a team that uses geospatial data, systems, and technical services to support practical conservation delivery across NSW. The Technical Services Officer is part of a statewide technical team and plays a key role in blending technical know-how with on-ground delivery of conservation initiatives, strategic planning, decision support and policy development.
In this role, you will provide geospatial technical services to operational staff, including data management and analysis, troubleshooting, training, and input into the development of systems, tools and procedures.
You will work collaboratively with regional teams across the organisation to support best-practice methods for the collection, management, analysis and reporting of biodiversity and land-management data. You’ll help build and maintain a growing network of private protected areas across NSW.
This role is predominantly office-based with occasional opportunities to participate in field-based work, involving travel to and work in remote areas.
About the role
This role is within the Agreements and Technical Services Team of the BCT,
a high-performing team of technical and subject-matter experts who support the delivery of private land conservation across NSW. The role will work closely with the BCT Principal Technical Officer and Senior Technical Officers to deliver strategic projects, improve spatial services and provide practical operational support.
It is an exciting, challenging and key role that helps ensure the BCT has reliable spatial information and evidence to make informed decisions about conservation priorities, investment and delivery.
In this role you will:
- Provide practical technical support to staff capturing, editing and maintaining geospatial data for the establishment, administration and monitoring of private land conservation agreements in NSW.
- Train and support staff in the use of GIS technology for field-based assessment and monitoring work.
- Source information and respond to internal requests for GIS support, including data manipulation, spatial analysis, mapping and reporting within required timeframes.
- Provide a wide range of technical services, including troubleshooting, spatial analysis, map production, advice and recommendations to help address operational issues.
- Contribute to the effective and efficient capture and curation of corporate geospatial data and maintenance of data quality standards.
- Participate in the design and implementation of systems that give BCT personnel ready, reliable and practical access to geospatial data and services.

- have experience using geospatial systems and other data management tools to solve real-world data challenges.

- communicate clearly and enjoy working with regional staff and technical specialists, including documenting procedures and metadata in a way others can understand and use.
- are comfortable working in an operational workplace where timely, accurate and useful outputs matter.
- are keen to contribute to a positive team culture and to the values that make the BCT a great place to work.
Key knowledge and experience
- Extensive experience with geographical information systems particularly ESRI products (ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, and Online, Web AppBuilder, Survey123, Field Maps). Experience with FME would be an advantage.
- Experience in the analysis and management of environmental and natural resources data.
