About the role:

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an Emerging Future Shaper to join Orica’s Summer Internship Program as a PhD Intern within our Technology & Innovation team, based at Deer Park in Melbourne.

This specialist internship is designed for a PhD candidate in Surface Chemistry who is interested in applying advanced research skills to meaningful industrial challenges. Working alongside experienced scientists and technical professionals, you will contribute to research activities that support the development and evaluation of innovative solutions.

This is an excellent prospect to broaden your industry experience, strengthen your ability to translate research into practical outcomes and learn within a global organisation where safety, collaboration and technical excellence are central to how we work.

The internship will be based at Orica’s Deer Park site in Melbourne.

What you will be doing:

Research & Experimental Support

- Support the planning and delivery of surface-chemistry research and experimental activities.
- Conduct literature reviews and contribute to the refinement of research questions and test approaches.
- Assist with sample preparation, laboratory testing, data capture and quality control.
- Analyse and interpret experimental results using appropriate scientific methods.

Technical Collaboration & Communication

- Document methods, results and observations clearly and accurately.




- Prepare concise technical summaries and communicate findings to scientific and project stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers and other technical specialists.
- Follow all laboratory, safety, environmental and quality requirements.

What you will bring:

- Currently undertaking a PhD in Surface Chemistry or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
- A strong understanding of physical chemistry related to emulsion and surfactant science or engineering.
- Analytical skills in spectroscopy and common wet chemistry methods.
- Sound knowledge of chemical reactions.
- Expertise in experimental design and highly developed problem-solving skills.
- Multidisciplinary scientific or engineering knowledge.
- Excellent research and communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- A commitment to safety, inclusion and respectful ways of working.
- Availability to participate for the full Summer Internship Program period and to work from the advertised location.
