Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced physicians with an interest in medical leadership to undertake the role of Head of Department – Medicine at Alice Springs Hospital. The successful applicant will lead the Department of Medicine, working under the direction of the Office of the Executive Director Medical Services (OEDMS), with responsibility for service delivery, workforce planning, and the development of a sustainable and engaged medical workforce. The role has a strong focus on building a positive, high-performing workforce, supporting staff wellbeing, and ensuring patients, families and the community receive high-quality medical care across the region. The position includes 0.5 FTE allocated to leadership and management responsibilities, with a flexible clinical component based on service requirements. The Head of Department will also represent Central Australia and the Division of Medicine,
including General Medicine and relevant sub‑specialties, as delegated by the OEDMS. About the Hospital:
Alice Springs Hospital is the major referral centre for Central Australia, serving a catchment area of over one million square kilometres. The hospital provides care to a geographically dispersed population, with a significant proportion of patients from remote Aboriginal communities. As a 183‑bed teaching hospital affiliated with Flinders University and Charles Darwin University, Alice Springs Hospital delivers a broad scope of clinical services in a regional setting, with a strong focus on general medicine, chronic disease management and remote health.
