Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We are looking for people as passionate about data as we are. In Sector Insights, we are united in a common goal of using data to drive insights to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. We support justice agencies to work together to deliver ambitious results for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
Job Description
As a Senior Analyst in the Research and Evaluation team, you will play a key role in delivering evidence that informs justice sector priorities and contributes to better outcomes for New Zealanders.
A significant focus of this role will be supporting the monitoring and evaluation of Te Ao Mārama, a judicially led kaupapa that is transforming the experience of people engaging with the District Court. Te Ao Mārama seeks to create a court system where people feel seen, heard, understood, and able to participate meaningfully in court processes.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead and contribute to research, monitoring, and evaluation projects across the team's portfolio, including nationally significant initiatives such as Te Ao Mārama.
- Develop and deliver monitoring and reporting products that track outcomes and provide insight into how justice initiatives are performing over time.
- Apply strong analytical, research, and communication skills to generate robust evidence and translate complex findings into clear advice for decision‑makers.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the Ministry, courts, justice sector agencies, iwi partners, and external providers to support evidence‑informed improvement.
You will apply your analytical, research, and coding skills to understand what is working, for whom, and why. Sometimes you'll work to a clear hypothesis; other times, you'll dive into the data to uncover patterns and insights that others might miss.
Critically, you will translate complex findings into clear, accessible insights that help decision‑makers understand progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and make evidence‑informed decisions.
Now is an exciting time for you to become part of the Ministry of Justice in Sector Insights as the advice we provide is highly sought after. Our work is characterised by innovation,
quality, and impact, and we inform the direction of Justice agencies.
