Role: Full time Software Engineer (Director of Software Engineering)

About the Role

Eftsure is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to provide senior technical leadership across its software engineering function. The position combines advanced software engineering expertise with responsibility for technical architecture, software development standards, engineering delivery and the leadership of software engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide senior technical leadership in the design, development, implementation and ongoing improvement of complex software systems and applications.
- Analyse software and system requirements and provide technical direction regarding software architecture, system design and appropriate technology solutions.
- Guide the design and development of scalable software architectures, services, APIs and system integrations.
- Evaluate existing software architecture and identify opportunities to improve system performance, scalability, reliability and maintainability.
- Design, implement and continuously improve engineering operating models and software delivery frameworks that enable development teams to effectively manage the software development lifecycle across multiple teams and locations.
- Establish clear engineering accountability, technical governance and decision-making frameworks to support efficient software delivery while maintaining appropriate technical and quality controls.
- Establish and maintain software engineering standards covering application design, coding practices, testing, deployment, observability and software quality.




- Provide technical expertise to investigate and resolve complex software engineering and system issues.
- Review proposed technical solutions and architectural changes to ensure consistency with engineering standards and longer-term technology objectives.
- Guide engineering teams in the selection and implementation of appropriate development technologies, frameworks, tools and methodologies.
- Lead the organisation's AI engineering strategy, including evaluating AI-assisted software development tools and technologies and establishing appropriate engineering practices for their effective use across the software development function.
- Evaluate the effectiveness, productivity and cost implications of engineering technologies and development tools and make recommendations regarding their adoption and utilisation.
- Oversee software development and delivery activities to ensure solutions meet functional, technical, quality and security requirements.
- Identify technical and project risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement of software development processes, development workflows, CI/CD practices and engineering quality.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies and development approaches and assess their suitability for the organisation's software setting.
- Communicate technical direction, architecture decisions, engineering risks and project progress to senior stakeholders.

Skills and Experience





- Minimum 6 years' professional experience in software engineering, including substantial experience in senior software technical or engineering leadership positions.
- Strong software engineering background with demonstrated experience designing, developing and delivering complex software systems.
- Demonstrated experience in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, system integration and modern software engineering practices.
- Demonstrated experience establishing or improving software engineering operating models, development processes and technical governance frameworks.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, testing, CI/CD, code quality, observability and engineering standards.
- Experience evaluating and implementing development technologies, frameworks, engineering tools and emerging technologies.
- Experience evaluating and implementing AI-assisted software engineering tools and practices would be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and resolve complex software engineering and architectural problems.
- Experience developing technical capability within engineering teams, including mentoring engineers and establishing structured career or competency frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead software engineering teams operating across multiple projects, products or locations.
- Strong understanding of software scalability, reliability, security and maintainability principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management and communication skills.
