The role
Applications are sought for the position of Mine Geologist - Underground.
The responsibilities of this role will be:
- Support the OBM Drive to 300koz+ and beyond through Resource Conversion, Definition and Underground Exploration drilling programs.
- Conduct daily mine geology and grade control activities, including face, wall and backs mapping, photography, sampling, geological mark-up and updating plans and sections.
- Ensure capital and ore development is appropriately mapped, sampled and documented to support regulatory compliance, geotechnical monitoring and development of 3D geological models.
- Collect high-quality structural geology data from underground mapping and core logging, including faults, veins, foliation, bedding, contacts, folds and lineations.
- Interpret and communicate lithology, structure,
alteration and mineralisation through quality mapping, sampling, core logging and plan/section interpretation.
- Work closely with Mining, Engineering and Survey to maximise ore recovery, minimise dilution and support efficient development and stoping cycles.
- Conduct and document stope inspections, Stope Notes and reconciliations, providing geological input into performance reviews and corrective actions.
- Collect and submit geometallurgical samples from underground and drill core to support geological modelling, mine planning and metallurgical recovery estimates.
- Assist with the design, supervision and geological logging of underground and Grade Control drilling programs, including preparation of GC proposals.
- Provide accurate geological information for ore movement, underground trucking and stockpile reconciliation, including weekly and month-end data checks.
- Collaborate with Technical Services and Mining to deliver daily, weekly and three-month mine plans and schedules.
- Maintain clear and timely communication of underground geological information across the Technical and Mining teams.
- Provide guidance, instruction and training to Graduate Geologists.
- Comply with all company policies, standards and procedures, and undertake other duties as required.
About you
To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualification Bachelor Science (Geology) or equivalent from a recognised institution
- Minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role
- Previous use of mining software – Micromine, Leapfrog, Geobank
- Member AIG, AusIMM or similar
- Ability to work as part of a technical team
- Valuable communication skills
- Proactive attitude and an aptitude for learning
- Awareness of the Workplace Health and Safety Act & Regulations
- ERT experience and willingness to join OBM’s ERT is preferred
- Current WA manual driver’s Licence
- Current First Aid certificate
