Your Opportunity
As the Business Development Officer, you will:
- Initiate and implement business strategies to enhance business performance and growth and to increase the Region’s market share and revenue in key markets;
- Coordinate and assist marketing a range of commercial training programs to promote the Region as a quality provider in education, training and consultancy service; and
- Work collaboratively with managers and educational delivery teams to identify and develop market opportunities for revenue and contribute to the development of sales strategies to convert sales leads into commercial business.
This position reports to the Senior Business Development Officer.
This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity
The position will be based primarily at Cairns however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively research, using various strategies including face to face appointments to identify client needs and industry trends and develop and implement strategies to actively pursue new commercial opportunities and increase sales within local, regional and national markets.
- Coordinate the development of current commercial business and act as a reference point for these clients and within other industries.
- Implement business development initiatives aligned with regional and organisational priorities, adapting approaches to meet client, industry and market needs.
- Monitor client activity,
competitor products, market opportunities and business development outcomes through effective use of TAFE Queensland's systems and actively pursue commercial revenue generation for the Region through ongoing client and pipeline management.
- Conduct analysis, and work with faculty and TAFE Queensland staff to formulate proposals, tenders, project management plans and quotations, in consultation with educational teams, to reflect direct and indirect costs associated with commercial activity and ensure compliance with relevant legislative and government policy requirements whilst meeting client training needs.
- Presentation of proposals, tenders, project management plans and quotations to commercial clients, in collaboration with educational teams, to present commercial proposals in order to promote Region products as required.
- Contribute to the achievement of strategic and operational objectives through the delivery of business growth, stakeholder engagement and commercial outcomes.
- Maintain an understanding of the commercial aspects of TAFE Queensland including financial and business performance and any impact from external factors.
- Actively engage with industry, business and the community.
- Contribute to the achievement of TAFE Queensland’s quality policies by encouraging an environment where high quality work is achieved and supported by the adherence/development of quality system documentation.
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Showing Initiative, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer and Taking Responsibility.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
1. Demonstrated ability in research, the development and presentation of proposals, tenders and financial quotations for clients and stakeholders within a professional or commercial environment.
2.
Demonstrated ability in business development and key account management, as evidenced by a record of achievement in meeting or exceeding sales targets, and in engaging with business, industry, government representatives and students.
3. High level analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to conceptualise and develop innovative strategies in the development of training programs to meet client training requirements.
4. High level written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills as demonstrated through the preparation of proposals, tendering and contract documentation, including the ability to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing business needs, work flexibly across priorities and collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver outcomes.

Highly Desirable Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook)
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
