We are partnering with a leading organisation undergoing a significant enterprise transformation to appoint an experienced Data & AI Governance Manager. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for establishing and maturing enterprise-wide data governance, AI governance, and Responsible AI capabilities. As organisations increasingly leverage artificial intelligence to drive innovation and operational efficiency, this role will play a critical part in ensuring AI is deployed safely, ethically, and in compliance with regulatory and organisational standards. You will lead the development of governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models that enable trusted data and responsible AI adoption across the enterprise. Working closely with executive stakeholders, technology leaders, legal, risk, compliance, security, data, and business teams, you will balance innovation with effective governance, helping the organisation maximise the value of its data and AI investments while managing risk.
Key Responsibilities Data Governance
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organisation's enterprise data governance framework.
Establish policies, standards, processes, and controls to improve data quality, integrity, security, privacy, and accessibility.
Define and embed data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models across business units.
Monitor governance maturity and recommend continuous improvements.
Drive initiatives to improve enterprise-wide data quality and metadata management.
AI Governance & Responsible AI
Design and implement an enterprise AI governance framework aligned with recognised Responsible AI principles.
Develop governance processes covering AI model lifecycle management, transparency, explainability, bias mitigation, fairness, accountability, and human oversight.
Support the safe adoption of Generative AI and emerging AI technologies.
Work with legal, cyber security, privacy, and risk teams to ensure AI solutions comply with organisational policies and evolving regulatory requirements.
Establish AI risk assessment and approval processes.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Partner with Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Legal, and Cyber Security teams to embed governance into business operations.
Develop governance reporting, KPIs, dashboards, and executive reporting.
Conduct governance assessments and identify areas requiring remediation.
Support internal and external audit activities relating to data and AI governance.
Monitor emerging legislation, industry standards, and regulatory developments relating to data management and artificial intelligence.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with executive leaders, business stakeholders, technology teams, and external partners.
Influence senior decision-makers to embed governance practices across the organisation.
Facilitate governance committees, working groups, and steering forums.
Provide education and guidance to improve governance awareness and organisational capability.
Transformation Leadership
Support enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives through effective governance practices.
Balance innovation with risk management, enabling the organisation to confidently scale data and AI capabilities.
Champion continuous improvement and governance maturity across people, processes, and technology.
About You You are an experienced governance leader who combines strategic thinking with a pragmatic, hands-on delivery approach. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving organisational change within complex enterprise environments.
You possess exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills and have demonstrated success building governance capabilities that enable rather than hinder innovation.
Skills & Experience Essential
Extensive experience leading enterprise Data Governance programs.
Demonstrated experience establishing or maturing AI Governance or Responsible AI frameworks.
Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality, metadata, master data, and information management.
Experience working across governance, risk, compliance, privacy, cyber security, and technology functions.
Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive enterprise-wide adoption of governance practices.
Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models.
Experience delivering governance outcomes within large-scale transformation programs.
Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Desirable
Experience within digital-first organisations or highly regulated industries such as financial services, government, healthcare, telecommunications, or utilities.
Knowledge of Responsible AI frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, OECD AI Principles, or similar).
Familiarity with AI technologies, machine learning, Generative AI, and enterprise AI platforms.
Understanding of privacy legislation, information security, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Experience with data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or similar platforms.
