We’re currently recruiting for a Senior Design Manager based in Melbourne for our client. The company is a growing EPC contractor delivering utility‑scale renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), high‑voltage substations and electrical balance of plant (eBoP) infrastructure projects across Australia.

As part of a significant growth phase, they are seeking a Senior Design Manager to provide technical leadership across major energy infrastructure projects. This role will provide leadership across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring high‑quality design outcomes, effective stakeholder engagement and robust collaboration between engineering, project delivery and construction teams for complex BESS, solar and substation projects.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design management function across multiple infrastructure projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Develop and implement design strategies that align with project objectives and business goals.
- Establish and maintain design standards, governance processes and quality assurance procedures.
- Review and approve key technical decisions, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Manage design programmes, deliverables, resources and design budgets to achieve project milestones.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary design teams, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement,



construction and project management teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Identify and manage design‑related risks, implementing mitigation strategies where required.
- Oversee design coordination, value engineering initiatives and constructability reviews.
- Monitor project progress, prepare management reports and ensure timely delivery of all design documentation.

Required Experience

- Extensive experience leading the design management of large‑scale electricity infrastructure, renewable energy or power generation projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong understanding of the complete project lifecycle including feasibility, concept design, detailed design, procurement and construction.
- Experience managing design programmes, budgets, resources and technical deliverables.
- Proven ability to coordinate engineering, construction and commercial stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of design governance, quality assurance and risk management principles.
- Experience delivering complex HV electrical infrastructure, substations, transmission, distribution and/or renewable energy projects will be highly regarded.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to balance technical, commercial and programme requirements while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
