About the role
RedDoor Community Services is seeking a passionate and experienced Barista Trainer and Student Mentor to join our team in Mount Isa, QLD. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in developing the next generation of baristas and hospitality professionals. As Barista Trainer and Student Mentor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training programmes, mentoring students through their learning and life journey, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages skill development and professional growth. Our cafe is a social enterprise cafe that exists to support people to get the skills in work and life to be sucessfully employed long-term.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive barista training programmes to students, covering espresso preparation, milk steaming, customer service, and coffee theory.
- Assess student competency and progress against industry standards and training objectives
- Provide one-on-one mentoring and coaching to support students' personal and professional development
- Create individualised learning plans tailored to each student's needs, goals and learning pace
- Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs and student progress documentation
- Demonstrate best practice barista techniques and maintain high standards of beverage preparation
- Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive learning setting that encourages confidence and engagement
- Liaise with other team members and community services staff to ensure holistic student support
- Provide constructive feedback to students and identify areas for improvement and development
- Stay current with industry trends, coffee techniques and training methodologies
What we're looking for
- Minimum 1 years' experience working as a barista in a professional café or hospitality environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting student success and development
- Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst collaborating effectively with team members
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
- A passion for hospitality, customer service and continuous improvement
- Current working with children check or willingness to obtain one if required
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transport (desirable)
