About the Role
SEDAC is seeking an experienced, hands-on Site Manager to take full ownership of on-site delivery for a utility-scale PV (Solar) and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) project in Baddaginnie, Victoria. This role requires someone who can run a disciplined, compliant, and well-documented site from day one — not just supervise the works, but actively own the HSE management system, quality assurance, training records, and site administration that keep a principal contractor's obligations on track.
Local candidates: we're looking for someone based in or within a reasonable commute of Baddaginnie, Shepparton or the Goulburn Valley — no accommodation package required, and the hourly rate reflects that.
Non-local candidates: if the right candidate isn't local, a support package (accommodation, living-away-from-home allowance, vehicle allowance and fuel costs) is available by arrangement.
You'll report to senior project leadership and work closely with site supervisors, subcontractors, and the client's HSE representatives to ensure the project is delivered safely, on program, to specification, and to a standard that passes scrutiny.
Key Responsibilities
• Site Leadership — Provide daily oversight of all construction, installation, and testing activities across the PV and BESS scope.
• HSE Management System Ownership — Establish and maintain a compliant, auditable HSE system: current SWMS filed and accessible (not held in a personal inbox), an up-to-date Training & Competency Register, a Plant & Equipment Register, and a live Corrective Action Register.
• Quality Assurance — Own the Quality Management Plan: ITPs, hold points, non-conformance reporting,
and verification of subcontractor work against specification before sign-off.
• Site Administration & Document Control — Ensure inductions, site registers, toolbox talk records, and pre-start documentation are complete, current, and correctly filed — ready for client or principal contractor audit at any time.
• Operational Control — Run daily pre-start meetings and chair weekly production meetings with supervisors to communicate strategy and targets.
• Performance Management — Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance; oversee the work of supervisors, employees, and subcontractors.
• Project Health — Identify program slippage early and keep the Project Manager informed of delays or breaches of contract.
• Safety Culture — Drive genuine hazard reporting, Take 5s, and toolbox talk participation across all crews (not just paperwork compliance) — and close out corrective actions promptly.
• Mentorship — Supervise assistant managers and superintendents, reviewing their reports and correcting deficiencies or safety violations.
About You
• Experience: Minimum 3 years in Construction Management or a similar senior site-based role.
• Sector Knowledge: Proven delivery of major greenfield infrastructure — utility-scale renewable energy strongly preferred.
• Renewable Energy Experience: At least 3 years in utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects.
• HSE Systems Track Record: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a site HSE management system from the ground up — not just work within an existing one. You should be comfortable owning registers, audits, and document control as a core part of the role, not an afterthought.
• Quality Track Record: Demonstrated experience running QA alongside HSE on a construction site — ITPs, hold points, and non-conformance management.
• Audit-Ready Mindset: Experience preparing for and responding to principal contractor or third-party HSE audits, with a track record of closing out corrective actions on time.
• Location: Based in or within reasonable commuting distance of Baddaginnie, Shepparton or the Goulburn Valley strongly preferred.
• Qualifications (mandatory): Construction Induction Safety certificate (White Card); current First Aid and CPR certification; and a Cert IV in Building and Construction (Site Management stream) or Cert IV in Work Health and Safety.
Candidates must have existing Australian work authorisation to be considered for this position.
Why SEDAC
SEDAC values honest, direct communication and gives site leaders genuine autonomy — but that autonomy comes with real accountability for safety, quality, and site standards. We're investing in a reset on this project and are looking for someone who wants to build a site they'd be proud to have audited on any given day, and who sees strong systems as the foundation of valuable delivery, not red tape on top of it.
If you're a safety-first, quality-focused leader who can run a tight site and back it up with the paperwork to prove it, we want to hear from you.
