Unified Security

Newcastle

Most security technician ads in the Hunter don't tell you what the job pays. Ours does, because you should be able to work out whether it's worth your time before you write an application.

That's a wide band on purpose. We're open to technicians at different stages, and we'd rather run one honest ad than two misleading ones.

Who this role is for

Just finished your apprenticeship, or one or two years left to go. You can cable, terminate, mount and configure. You've probably done more installing than commissioning, and you're aware there's a gap between having your ticket and actually being trusted with a site. We're not going to pretend that gap doesn't exist. We'll close it with you deliberately, and there's a plan for how, further down.

Three or more years qualified. You can walk onto a multi door site, commission it, build the server, hand it over and document it without anyone checking your work. You want to be somewhere your standard is the standard, not somewhere you're fighting the schedule to do it properly.

Both are real openings. Tell us which one you are and we'll take it from there.

About us

Unified Security is a commercial electronic security contractor based in Mayfield West. We design, install and commission CCTV, access control, alarm, intercom and structured cabling systems for schools, clubs, construction projects and commercial businesses across the Hunter and broader NSW.

The work

- Install, terminate and test structured cabling including Cat6, Cat6A, fibre and coax

- Install, configure and commission IP CCTV systems, NVRs and VMS platforms including Nx Witness, Hikvision, Ajax

- Program and commission alarm systems across Inner Range, Ajax, Tecom

- Install and program access control including readers, controllers and door hardware

- Configure supporting network infrastructure including switches, VLANs and remote access

- Fault find and rectify faults on existing client systems

- Work alongside clients, site supervisors and other trades

- Produce commissioning records and as built documentation

How much of that you do solo on day one depends on where you're starting from. Nobody gets handed a site they aren't ready for.

What we need from you

Essential:

- NSW Security Licence Class 2 (2A, 2B, 2C), or eligibility to obtain one

- Certificate III in Telecommunications, or an equivalent trade qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience

- Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain.

- Construction Induction Card (White Card)

- Current NSW driver's licence

- A working understanding of IP networking as it applies to security systems. You don't need to be a network engineer, but you should have basic networking understanding.

Well regarded, and genuinely not expected from someone recently qualified:

- Inner Range Integriti or Inception accreditation

- Competent with Hikvision, Nx Witness, Ajax

- ACMA registered cabler

- EWP or scissor lift ticket

- Fibre termination and splicing

Who does well here

- Finishes a job properly

- Works to a standard rather than to a clock, and leaves site clean

- Says when something is outside their experience instead of guessing and creating a callback. This matters more to us than knowing everything already

- Wants to get genuinely good at security rather than adequate at nine different disciplines

- Can handle a conversation with a site contact without it getting awkward,

or is willing to learn how

What you get

- $75,000 to $110,000 plus super, set on what you can do today rather than what your resume says. We'll tell you where you sit in that range at interview, not after you've started

- Formal pay review at six and twelve months if you're starting at the earlier stage, so progress shows up in your account and not just in your job title

- Fully maintained work vehicle, fuel card, phone, Laptop.

- Manufacturer training funded, including Inner Range, Hikvision, Ajax

- Predominantly Hunter based work. We take on occasional Sydney and regional NSW projects, typically a handful of times a year, which may involve one or two nights away. Accommodation, meals and a living away allowance are covered

- A transparent path to Lead Technician as we grow, with the pay to match

Why this job and not one of the others

What we offer instead is a business where jobs get scoped before they start, gear is on site before you are, and clients get accurate as built documentation at handover. You'll know why you're on a site, what the client was sold, and what finished looks like.

For someone recently qualified, that matters more than it sounds. You learn the trade properly the first time instead of picking up bad habits on chaotic jobs and spending three years unlearning them.

How to apply

Click Apply and send your resume plus a short note covering two things: which systems you've actually worked on, and whether you're recently qualified or experienced. No lengthy cover letter required.

Applications are reviewed as they come in. If you're currently employed and would prefer a confidential conversation first, note that in your application and we'll keep it that way.
