The Company

Most finance teams automate a process and then work out what the people do next. This one is going about it the other way round, deciding what the seat becomes while the work is still being done by hand.

Behind it is an Australian business owned by a global parent, running multi-entity accounts out of Brisbane to standards that are set offshore and audited properly. The numbers are large, the controls are real and the team is small enough that whoever handles the payments is known by name rather than by function. The invoice automation goes live around March. Until then someone runs the process manually, and afterwards that same Accounts Officer helps work out what good looks like on the other side.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting, the Accounts Officer owns the transactional heartbeat of the finance function: the disbursements, receipts, reconciliations and controls that keep a multi-entity, joint venture business moving. The volumes are meaningful, the dollar values are large and the control setting is taken seriously, so precision counts for more here than it does in most seats of this kind.

There is a second half to this job that makes it unusual. The business is part way through automating its invoice processing through OCR, with go live planned for around March. You would run the process by hand first then help move it across, and the work shifts progressively from doing to monitoring, coordinating through a dashboard and holding the governance around it tight. You would work directly with finance leadership on the automation and the SAP side of it.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

- Processing and reviewing all payments and receipts across the company and its subsidiaries, including manual disbursements and cash receipts

- Regular bank reconciliations within SAP so every cash transaction is accounted for accurately and on time

- Coordinating approvals and processing joint venture cash call requirements

- Preparing electronic fund transfers for authorised approvers, with the supporting information attached

- Liaising with other divisions so supplier purchase orders are approved and paid within terms, and maintaining the supplier database in SAP

- Administering corporate card, cab and rideshare accounts, and processing staff reimbursements in line with company policy

- Supporting cash forecast preparation and maintaining bank contacts as required

- Performing assigned month end tasks including journals, and preparing general ledger reconciliations for manager review

- Examining monthly master data change forms and assessing compliance with the SAP related internal controls

- Providing administrative support to the Financial Reporting team and assisting with auditor queries

About You

You are the kind of Accounts Officer who notices when something is a few cents out and cannot leave it alone. You might be a career accounts professional who takes real pride in clean ledgers, tidy reconciliations and a supplier base that trusts you,

or you might be earlier in your finance career and drawn to the depth of controls experience a business of this calibre gives you. Either way you are available now or very soon, a six month commitment suits where you are, and you would rather be the dependable centre of a small capable team than a number in a large one.

Skills & Experience

The Accounts Officer who does well here will bring most of the following:

- At least two years in accounts payable with daily cash operations, in a corporate environment

- Confidence across high volume payments, bank reconciliations and electronic funds transfers

- Experience with a major ERP, with SAP highly regarded

- A genuine feel for internal controls and why the process discipline exists

- Intermediate Excel, and the communication to deal courteously with stakeholders at every level

- A degree in accounting is well regarded, though your track record matters more here

What's on Offer

- Six months on the client's own payroll with full leave entitlements, and a genuine intent to extend

- A seat at an invoice automation go live, and a hand in shaping what the Accounts Officer role becomes afterwards

- Direct work with finance leadership on the SAP and invoice automation project

- A competitive package aligned to the experience you bring
