1405 Photography is looking for an experienced Photography Assistant to join our small, friendly team, photographing children at childcare centres and kindergartens across Melbourne's Northern and Western suburbs.

This is a contractor position offering approximately 2 set days per week, with the opportunity for additional days as the role grows.

Most importantly, for the right person, this position has a genuine pathway to progress into a Photographer role with a higher pay rate.

We are looking for someone who already has experience assisting with photography and understands the basics of working with natural light, reflectors and diffusers. We will then provide further training in the 1405 Photography style and our childcare photography process.

❤️ About the Assistant Photographer Role

You will work alongside our photographers to help create fun, relaxed and organised photo sessions for children aged approximately 3 months to 6 years.

Your role will include:

- Setting up and packing down photography areas at childcare centres and kindergartens.

- Preparing children and helping them feel comfortable and excited for their photos.

- Working closely with the photographer throughout each session.

- Using reflectors and diffusers during outdoor natural-light photography.

- Interacting with children to help create natural smiles and genuine expressions.

- Communicating professionally with educators, centre staff and the 1405 team.

- Keeping sessions organised and running smoothly in a fast-paced environment.

- Maintaining strong attention to detail throughout the day.

- Bringing positive energy and enthusiasm to every session.

? We're Looking for Someone Who:

- Has previous photography assistant experience.

- Has a genuine passion for photography and would love the opportunity to develop into a photographer.





- Loves working and interacting with young children.

- Has an understanding of natural light photography, reflectors and diffusers.

- Is confident, friendly, outgoing and able to engage with children.

- Can multitask and remain organised in a busy environment.

- Is punctual, reliable, well presented and professional.

- Has a positive, can-do attitude.

- Is physically fit and active, as the role can be physically demanding.

- Is comfortable travelling to different childcare centres throughout Melbourne's Northern and Western suburbs.

? Pathway to Photographer

We would love to find someone who doesn't just want an assistant position, but is excited about developing their photography skills and growing with 1405 Photography.

For the right candidate, we will provide training to progress from Photography Assistant to Photographer.

This will include developing skills in:

- Natural-light photography.

- Composition and positioning.

- Working confidently with reflectors and diffusers.

- Directing and engaging young children.

- Creating natural expressions and genuine smiles.

- Running a photography session independently.

- Working to the photography style and standards of 1405 Photography.

Once successfully trained and ready to move into a Photographer position, a higher photographer pay rate will apply.

? What We Offer

- Approximately 2 set days per week, with room to grow.

- Assistant Photographer: $30–$35 per hour.

- Photographer: $40–$50 per hour once successfully trained and ready to progress into the Photographer role.

? Position Details

- Contractor position.

- Approximately 2 days per week.

- 8:15am starts, with varying finish times generally between 12:00pm–3:00pm.

- Work locations change each week across Melbourne's Northern and Western suburbs.

- Position available to commence ASAP for the right candidate.

You will need:

- Previous photography assistant experience.

- A current Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before commencing.

- Current driver's licence.

- Reliable vehicle.

- Ability to travel between childcare centres and kindergartens.
