This organisation plays an important role in delivering services across Australia and is seeking an experienced APS5 Payroll Officer to join a collaborative HR team. Working within a customer-focused payroll environment, you will support employees and managers through the delivery of accurate payroll services and advice while contributing to continuous process improvement.
Your new role
As an APS5 Payroll Officer, you will provide end-to-end payroll support and be a key point of contact for employee payroll enquiries. Working in a high-volume environment, you will ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately while maintaining strong service standards and compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing payroll transactions, employee variations and payroll-related administration
- Performing payroll calculations including leave, terminations, final payments and parental leave calculations
- Managing payroll enquiries via phone, email and helpdesk channels
- Supporting onboarding and employee data maintenance within payroll systems
- Raising and monitoring payroll tickets through Aurion and liaising with service providers where required
- Assisting with payroll compliance, record keeping and reporting activities
- Supporting the development and maintenance of payroll procedures and process documentation
- Providing payroll training and guidance to employees and managers on timesheets, leave applications and related payroll functions
- Contributing to process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll service delivery
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role,
you will bring:
- Must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline security clearance
- Experience using Aurion, at least 6 months
- Experience working within a payroll, HR operations or people services environment
- Strong payroll administration experience with exposure to payroll calculations and employee lifecycle transactions
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly
- High attention to detail and proven accuracy when handling payroll data
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing workloads
- Experience working within the APS or a government environment will be highly regarded
- A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering high-quality client service
