About the Role
This role sits within Customer Protection, Fraud Analytics and is responsible for leading fraud prevention analytics across customer onboarding and application journeys.
The Application Fraud Lead drives the use of data, analytics and intelligence to identify emerging application fraud risks and develop prevention and detection strategies across home loans, credit cards, personal lending and transaction accounts. The role leads a small team and works closely with Product, Operations, Risk and Technology stakeholders to minimise fraud losses while maintaining a smooth customer experience. The role operates in a fast-paced environment requiring ongoing reprioritisation to respond to evolving fraud threats, emerging attack vectors and changes in the regulatory landscape impacting application fraud and lending controls

What will your day look like?
This role is accountable for:
- Leading application fraud analytics and strategy across customer onboarding, deposit account and lending journeys.
- Identifying emerging fraud trends and developing prevention and detection strategies to minimize customer and business losses.
- Optimizing application fraud controls and providing direction on rules and strategy enhancements within fraud platforms such as Hunter.
- Leveraging internal and external data sources, including credit bureau information, to identify fraud risks and improve decision making.
- Leading a small team of analysts whilst providing coaching, guidance and prioritization of work.
- Developing robust relationships with stakeholders across Lending, Product, Operations, Risk, Technology and Fraud to influence fraud outcomes.
- Partnering with external vendors and industry participants to maintain effective fraud prevention capabilities and awareness of emerging threats.
- Ensuring timely reporting of fraud trends, losses and key performance metrics to business stakeholders.
Supporting delivery of recent products, onboarding initiatives and process changes by assessing and mitigating fraud risk.
What will you bring?
- Robust experience in fraud analytics, fraud strategy or risk management within banking or financial services.
- Demonstrated experience managing fraud risks associated with customer onboarding, lending or account opening processes.
- Strong understanding of fraud typologies including identity theft, synthetic identities, application fraud, first-party fraud and document fraud.
- Strong understanding of lending and onboarding processes across home loans, credit cards, personal lending and deposit products.
- Experience working with major credit bureaux including Experian and Equifax.
- Experience working with application fraud platforms such as Hunter or equivalent fraud prevention solutions.
- Strong analytical capability with experience using SAS, SQL and large-scale data environments.
- Ability to use data and intelligence to develop practical fraud prevention and detection strategies.
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across business, operations and technology teams.
- Experience leading, mentoring or coaching analysts and specialists.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present insights and recommendations to senior audiences.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with constant reprioritization.
