About the Role

Lesryk is seeking a dynamic and motivated Graduate Ecologist with a passion for botany to join our growing team. This role involves working within a team, with a willingness to learn and grow through the assistance of our experienced project managers and lead botanist. In addition to the ability to work confidently within a team, the role requires a high level of autonomy.

The successful candidate will be trained across a variety of projects, from concept through to completion, assisting with botanical inspections, ecological assessments, statutory environmental documents (including Reviews of Environmental Factors and Biodiversity Assessment Reports), and overall project delivery within designated timeframes.

As part of our small and enthusiastic team, you will work on a range of diverse government and private projects across NSW. The ideal candidate should have a passion for ecology, specifically botany, and a willingness to develop their expertise further.

The role is based out of our Heathcote office and is expected to be a minimum of three days a week. The position will include both office and fieldwork, including work in remote areas and occasional overnight stays and week-long field trips.

whilst maintaining the opportunity for future career progression within the company as your skills develop and we continue to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in conducting botanical inspections and contribute to written reports.

- Assist with species identification, data entry, and management of ecological records.

- Assist with spatial data collection and GIS mapping (QGIS) to support ecological assessments, including preparation of maps and figures for reports (e.g. vegetation and constraints mapping).

- Assist with preparation of pre-fieldwork documentation, including Safe Work Method Statements and background searches of environmental databases.

- Maintain regular communication with the Director, Project Managers, and other team members.

- Attend, and contribute to, weekly team progress meetings.

- Collaborate with senior staff to update and manage internal databases, training documents, and other project resources.

- Use communication tools such as Trello and Outlook to manage and coordinate project updates.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

- Completed, or completing this year, tertiary qualifications in either Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, or other related disciplines.

- Willing to work within a team as well as independently.

- Willing to work closely with our lead botanist, developing your own botanical skills and enhancing those over time.





- Robust written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office for report preparation.

- NSW Driver’s licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork, including overnight stays and remote work.

Desirable:

- Basic understanding of State and Federal Environmental Legislation, particularly the BC Act and EPBC Act as they relate to threatened species.

- Botanical expertise with knowledge of Plant Community Types and threatened species.

- Demonstrated field and survey experience.

- Experience with GIS mapping tools, specifically QGIS.

- General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (White Card) certification.

- First Aid certification.

- 4WD training and the ability to drive a manual vehicle.

- Familiarisation with preparing, or adhering to, Safe Work Method Statements.
