About us

Carter Newell is a specialist law firm established in 1989, with offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. With 22 partners and more than 180 lawyers, management and support professionals, we work with some of Australia's largest corporations and leading international clients across insurance, construction and infrastructure, dispute resolution, and corporate and commercial law.

Our graduate program is how we bring the next generation of lawyers into that work.

The Program

Our 2027 Graduate Program gives you a strong foundation for your legal career. You will complete up to two six-month practice group rotations, gaining hands-on experience across our specialist teams, while completing your Practical Legal Training (PLT).

From day one, you will work on real matters for significant clients alongside practitioners who are recognised as leaders in their fields.

We also provide financial assistance and study leave to support you through your PLT and admission.

To be eligible, you must:

- Have completed an LLB or JD (or combined degree including law) by February 2027
- Be eligible to be admitted to the legal profession in Queensland, New South Wales or Victoria
- Be available to commence in February 2027
