The role:

Swan Materials is looking for a technically minded skilled to join our Quality & Technical team as a Quality & Technical Specialist. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting our concrete, asphalt and quarry operations. You’ll combine laboratory analysis, field-based technical support, product investigations and quality improvement, working closely with production, sales, laboratory and technical teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge across three areas of construction materials while using data and practical problem-solving to improve product quality and performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing technical support to operations and ensuring products are consistent, compliant and meet customer requirements.
- Analysing laboratory and field results and providing practical technical recommendations.
- Investigating product and quality issues for internal and external customers.
- Visiting plants, quarries and customer sites to collect samples, investigate issues and provide technical support.
- Supporting product trials, current product development, mix optimisation and technical projects.
- Supporting concrete, asphalt and aggregate testing, sampling and quality control processes.
- Working closely with production and sales teams to resolve technical issues and review specifications.
- Preparing technical reports and communicating results, trends and recommendations.
- Supporting audits, accreditation requirements and corrective actions.
- Working with the laboratory team to maintain testing capability and standards.
- Ensuring product and material changes are accurately managed through relevant systems.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with a strong technical foundation who enjoys applying their knowledge both in the lab and in the field. You’ll be comfortable engaging with customers and operational teams, and able to turn technical information into practical, easy-to-understand advice. You’ll ideally have:

- 5+ years’ experience in construction materials or a related technical/quality environment.
- Experience sampling and testing construction materials such as concrete, aggregates and/or asphalt.




- Experience with concrete and asphalt mixes and applications.
- Knowledge of Main Roads testing standards, Australian Standards and ISO 9001 quality systems.
- A Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or equivalent relevant technical experience.
- A current driver’s licence and Construction Industry White Card.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn technical data into practical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical, operational and customer-facing teams.
- Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Science will be highly regarded, along with experience using QestLab, QestMix, SAP or Command.

You don’t need to be an expert across all three disciplines. We’re interested in people with a solid background in one area who are curious, adaptable and motivated to broaden their knowledge across concrete, asphalt and aggregates!
