About the OIA

The OIA is a statutory authority responsible for assessing, investigating, and prosecuting allegations of misconduct by councillors. We operate with transparency, balance, and a strong focus on building capacity within the local government sector. Our purpose is to maintain trust in the integrity of mayors and councillors in Queensland by contributing to an efficient, fair and trusted councillor conduct framework.

About the role

As a Senior Investigator (AO6) at the Office of the Independent Assessor (OIA), you will play a pivotal role in maintaining public confidence and high standards of integrity in local government. You will independently plan and conduct complex, sensitive investigations into alleged misconduct by local government councillors.

Key Accountabilities

In undertaking the role of Senior Investigator, you would be expected to:

- Plan, manage, and conduct comprehensive investigations in accordance with legislative frameworks, OIA guidelines, and procedural fairness principles.

- Gather, analyse, and secure evidence, including conducting complex interviews with witnesses, complainants, and subjects.

- Prepare high-quality, evidence-based investigative reports, briefs of evidence, and recommendations within statutory timeframes.

- Manage stakeholder relationships sensitively and professionally across various levels of government and law enforcement.

- Provide guidance and mentoring to team members, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing investigative culture.





- Maintain meticulous records and case management databases to ensure full traceability and accountability.

About You:

Reporting to a Principal Investigator, you will

- Have proven ability in conducting intake, assessments or investigations of conduct complaints ideally within a disciplinary framework, criminal jurisdiction, local government sector or similar.

- Be resilient under pressure with the ability to manage workload without losing sight of detail or quality

- Bring a natural discretion and an unwavering appreciation for confidentiality, handling sensitive matters with absolute trust and skilled integrity.

- Possess a sharp analytical mindset, adept at interpreting, analysing and applying policies, procedures and legislation. A Certificate IV or Diploma in Investigations or Diploma in Government (Investigations) and/or relevant local government experience will be highly regarded.
