About the Role
We are looking for a patient, encouraging and reliable Support Worker to support a 20-year-old female to develop greater independence and confidence in her everyday life. The focus of this role is skill development, working alongside her to learn and practise practical independent living skills rather than simply doing tasks for her.
Key Responsibilities
You will support her to gradually develop skills such as:
- Planning and preparing simple meals
- Planning meals and creating shopping lists
- Grocery shopping and learning to make appropriate purchases
- Cleaning and maintaining her living workplace
- Laundry, folding and organising clothes
- Keeping her bedroom and personal spaces organised
- Developing personal household routines
- Learning basic budgeting and managing everyday expenses
- Developing routines, planning and time-management skills
- Building confidence with everyday household responsibilities
- Encouraging problem-solving and decision-making
- Supporting participation in the community and developing confidence outside the home where appropriate
The successful worker will work alongside her, demonstrate tasks, provide prompts and encouragement, and gradually reduce assistance as her confidence and skills improve.
We are looking for someone who is
- Patient, calm and respectful.
- Positive and encouraging
- Reliable and consistent.
- Comfortable working one-on-one
- Able to build a trusting and professional relationship
- Someone who genuinely enjoys teaching practical life skills
- Comfortable providing appropriate prompts without taking over
- Able to encourage independence and choice
- Respectful of individual preferences, dignity and privacy
- A good communicator with a mature and responsible approach
Experience in disability support, community services or independent living skill development is preferred, although the right person with a positive attitude and relevant life experience may also be considered.
What Success Looks Like: The goal is not simply to have the housework completed. Success means helping her become increasingly confident in saying: “I can do this myself.” We want a support worker who can celebrate small achievements, build confidence and help develop practical skills that will support greater independence over time.
