The Role
You will teach Year 11 -12 students preparing for HSC or IB examinations in one or more of the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
This role is suitable for someone who combines strong subject knowledge with an engaging teaching style and a genuine commitment to students’ academic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver clear, structured and engaging lessons aligned with HSC or IB requirements
- Explain complex scientific concepts in a logical and accessible way
- Support students with examination techniques, problem-solving and written responses
- Prepare thoroughly for each lesson and adapt teaching to students’ individual needs
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive academic feedback
- Maintain skilled, responsible and respectful communication with students, parents and colleagues
Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will:
- Have excellent knowledge of the subject or subjects they teach
- Preferably have achieved a Band 6 in HSC Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or a grade of 6 or 7 in the relevant IB subject
- Be currently studying, or have completed, a relevant degree such as Medicine, Medical Science, Engineering, Science, Education or a related discipline
- Preferably have at least one year of tutoring or teaching experience; experienced candidates will be considered first
- Be articulate and able to explain concepts clearly, logically and systematically
- Be patient, friendly and approachable, with a confident and engaging classroom presence
- Demonstrate responsibility, punctuality, diligence and a strong work ethic
- Act with integrity and show genuine respect for students and colleagues
- Hold a valid Working With Children Check, or be willing and eligible to obtain one
Availability
Tutoring sessions are generally scheduled:
- After 4:00 pm on weekdays
- Throughout the day on weekends
