ES Partners is seeking a highly skilled Generator Test Engineer is responsible for the testing, commissioning, fault finding and performance validation of diesel generator systems across a range of client projects. Working predominantly on site, you will be responsible for testing LV & MV generator systems to ensure they are installed commissioned and operating safely, reliably and in accordance with project specifications, Australian Standards and client requirements.
This role requires a qualified Electrical Engineer with experience testing engines, generators or related systems and / or strong experience in generator control systems or generator commissioning. You will work closely with Project Managers, Mechanical Engineers, OEMs and clients to successfully deliver project outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Your Responsibilities
Testing & Commissioning
- Lead and execute factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning and performance testing of diesel generator systems.
- Planning of and supervision of commissioning of LV and MV generator installations including fuel systems, protection systems, SVCADA systems and control interfaces.
- Perform Level 3 functional testing of standby generator systems including transient and load testing to validate the system against operational client specifications.
- Develop, review and execute commissioning procedures, test plans and inspection test plans (ITPs).
- Prepare commissioning reports, test records and final handover documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, electricians, mechanical installers and client representatives.
- Assist with project planning, commissioning schedules and resource requirements.
- Ensure commissioning milestones are achieved to support overall project delivery.
- Participate in client witness testing and project handovers.
- Maintain commissioning equipment, test instruments and calibration records.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Generator controls and system detailed design.
- Diagnose electrical and control system faults during installation,
commissioning and operational phases.
- Provide technical support to installation teams, project managers and clients during project delivery.
- Identify and resolve issues relating to generator controls, protection relays, synchronising equipment and power distribution systems.
- Liaise with OEMs and equipment suppliers to resolve technical issues and implement engineering improvements.
- Support root cause analysis of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and OEM representatives.
- Represent ES Partners professionally during commissioning activities and technical meetings.
- Provide technical advice and operational training to clients where required.
- Preparation of technical reports and close-out documentation.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with ES Partners' Quality Management System.
- Comply with all OH&S; legislation, client site requirements and safe work procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture and proactively identify and manage site risks.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, electrical regulations and commissioning procedures.

To Succeed, You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Eligible for registration with Engineers Australia (CPEng desirable).
- 3+ years' experience in electrical commissioning,
testing or power generation.
- Strong experience commissioning and / or testing of generators or engines.
- Excellent understanding of generator controls, synchronisation and load sharing.
- Strong fault-finding skills across electrical, controls and automation systems.
- Experience interpreting electrical schematics, single line diagrams and control drawings.
- Experience with protection relays, switchgear and power distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of Australian Standards particularly AS3000.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly and work on client sites predominantly in the Melbourne area.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience with ComAp, Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), Woodward, or other generator control systems.
- Experience with power quality analysis and load studies.
- Experience commissioning medium voltage (MV) power systems.
- Familiarity with PLCs and SCADA systems (Schneider, Siemens, Allen-Bradley or similar).
- Experience with data centre, mining or critical infrastructure projects.
- Construction industry White Card.
- First Aid and CPR certification.

This role is predominantly site-based (approximately 70%), with occasional office-based activities including planning, reporting, engineering support and project meetings. Some interstate travel may be required depending on project locations.
Pay: $140,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year
