Training Pathway

Successful applicants will commence on a full-time temporary contract while completing a 4.5-week paid Bus Driver training program.

Complete the course successfully and you’ll be offered permanent part-time employment.

Part-Time Hours

As a part-time driver, you’re guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours rostered per week, with the potential maximum of 30 hours rostered per week. The full-time salary noted above will be paid pro rata.





Permanent Part -Time Bus Operators work Monday to Friday inclusive and weekend work.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

What You’ll Need before you Get Behind the Wheel

To join Transport Canberra as a Bus Operator, you’ll bring enthusiasm, professionalism – and the right licences and clearances to help keep our community safe. Here is what’s required:

- A valid C-class driver’s licence (essential)
- Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a Medium Rigid (MR) licence
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Vehicle Driving Authority (PVDA)
- Commitment to obtaining a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence – within 6-12 months of commencement
- Successful completion of all pre-employment checks including:
- National police check
- Pre-Employment Medical assessment
- Psychometric assessment
- Literacy and numeracy assessment
- Heavy vehicle driving assessment (for applicants who already hold a MR or HR licence)

- Ability to meet seat weight and reach requirements:

- Weight range: 50kg – 130kg, as rated by the (relevant) seating manufacturer
- Standing reach: minimum 210cm

- Visa holders are eligible to apply for both permanent and temporary roles. Those with eligible visas may be considered for permanent employment, while individuals with temporary residency or limited-duration visas may be offered permanent employment for the duration of their visas.
- This position does require a pre-employment medical.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

- A copy of your Australian driver’s licence
- A current five-year Australian Driver History (from all the relevant Australian state and territory - authorities where you have lived) must not be older than 1 month at the time of application.
- A copy of your current Working with Vulnerable People registration or the willingness to obtain before being offered a BDT course.
- For visa holders please provide a copy of your current visa documents and a copy of your passport.
- Australian Citizens please provide a copy of an Australian Passport, Birth Certificate or Citizenship certificate.
