As an Early Childhood Teacher, you are expected to be an active member and mentor of a team which provides high quality early childhood education and care to children.
This includes:
- Developing solid relationships with children at the service;
- Developing strong relationships that support and partner with families;
- Implementing and always uphold the policies and associated procedures and practices of the organisation; and
Working with other staff towards continuous improvement in all areas of the service’s operations and service.
1. Teaching & curriculum
- Plan and implement a high-quality program based on the EYLF.
- Observe children, document their learning and use observations to plan next steps.
- Use intentional teaching, play-based learning and scaffolding.
- Follow children's interests, strengths, cultures and individual needs.
- Support inclusion of children with additional needs, disabilities and diverse backgrounds.
- Reflect on your teaching and adjust your practice when needed.
2. Relationships with children
- Build warm, respectful and trusting relationships with children.
- Support children's wellbeing, confidence, independence and sense of belonging.
- Encourage children to make choices and have a voice in their learning.
- Use positive behaviour guidance and help children develop self-regulation.
- Treat routines such as meals, toileting and dressing as opportunities for learning.
3. Working with families
- Build positive partnerships with families.
- Communicate regularly about children's learning, development and wellbeing.
- Respect family cultures, values and parenting practices.
- Support families during enrolment, transitions and transition to school.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional communication.
4. Teamwork & leadership
This is an important part of the role. Although you're an ECT, the position expects you to take on some leadership responsibilities.
You will be expected to:
- Lead, guide and support educators.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor.
- Share ideas and knowledge with other educators.
- Contribute to staff meetings and professional discussions.
- Work closely with the Educational Leader and Director.
- Help create a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Potentially take responsibility for the room/team when required.
5. Health, safety & child protection
You are responsible for ensuring children are safe and well cared for.
This includes:
- Active supervision at all times.
- Following health, safety and emergency procedures.
- Administering first aid/medication according to policy.
- Completing incident and accident documentation.
- Conducting risk assessments and safety checks.
- Understanding mandatory reporting and child protection responsibilities.
- Following the Child Safe Standards.
- Maintaining children's privacy and confidentiality.
6. Environment & resources
- Create an engaging, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
- Set up spaces that encourage exploration, curiosity and play.
- Maintain resources and equipment.
- Keep indoor and outdoor environments clean and safe.
- Include sustainable/environmentally responsible practices.
7. Compliance & professionalism
You need a good understanding of:
- EYLF
- National Quality Standard (NQS)
- Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations
- Code of Ethics
- Service philosophy and policies
- Child Safe Standards
- Workplace Health & Safety
You are also expected to keep learning through professional development, training, research and reflective practice.
Pay: $79,499.00 – $79,500.00 per year
