As Principal Coordinator – Governance, you will provide expert advice and lead the Governance Team in supporting Council to meet its statutory obligations. This dynamic and influential role will see you coordinate the operational delivery of Council meeting governance processes and services, including the end-to-end management of GIPA matters and complaints directed to Council. What this role looks like:
• Coordinate the delivery of governance services and functions, including planning, prioritizing and allocating work, monitoring workloads and supporting team capability development
• Attend Council meetings and support the integrity of Council's decision-making processes by reviewing Council Business Papers and Minutes, coordinating actions arising from Council meetings, monitoring resolution implementation.
• Coordinate and oversee Council's Government Information (Public Access) Act (GIPA) functions, including processing access applications, managing complex information access matters
• Support Council's compliance with statutory governance obligations under relevant legislation. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and coordinate the implementation of improvements to governance systems, controls, policies and practices.
• Coordinate the development, review and maintenance of governance-related policies, frameworks, procedures and registers
• Administer Council's complaints management framework, including complaints, ICAC, Ombudsman and other oversight agency matters. Monitor and track matters, coordinate investigations and prepare correspondence, reports and responses
• Provide specialist governance advice on governance, legislative compliance, information access, privacy, delegations, ethical conduct and administrative law matters.
• Coordinate and support reviews, complaints, investigations and external proceedings, including the preparation of information, submissions, records and briefing material for matters before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, oversight agencies and other external bodies.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Councillors, Executive Leadership Team members, staff, regulators, oversight agencies, community members and other government organisations to support Council's governance objectives.
What are we seeking from our new Principal Coordinator – Governance:
1. >5 years relevant experience
2. Tertiary qualifications in Law, Governance,
Public Administration, Business, Commerce, Management or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
3. Extensive relevant experience in Local Government or Public Sector governance and interpreting legislation.
4. Demonstrated experience in processing GIPA applications, privacy matters, complaints, integrity agency enquiries and/or external reviews.
5. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Experience preparing reports, briefings, correspondence and policy documents
