Career Development Advisor
Jobs and Skills Centre – Albany WA
Employment Type: Full-time or part time by agreement
ATC Work Smart is seeking a Career Development Advisor to join the Albany Jobs and Skills Centre.
You will provide one-to-one and group career guidance to clients of all ages, from students still at school through to mature-age job seekers. You will help clients explore career, training and employment options and turn uncertain ideas into practical next steps.
The work includes career planning, job search support, workshops and engagement with schools, TAFE, employers, training providers and community organisations. This is a free, independent, government-funded service providing career development support rather than recruitment, counselling or long-term case management.
What you will do
- Provide career guidance based on each client’s circumstances, strengths, interests, barriers and goals.
- Give accurate and current information about training, further education, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment pathways and the regional labour market.
- Support clients with resumes, cover letters, applications, selection criteria, job search strategies and interview preparation.
- Plan and deliver workshops and group sessions in schools, TAFE and community settings.
- Build credible relationships with employers, industry groups, education providers and community organisations, while representing the JSC within its agreed scope.
- Connect clients with appropriate services when their needs sit outside the JSC, complete timely and factual CRM notes, record agreed next steps and follow through on actions within the service scope.
About you
You will bring:
- A Certificate IV in Career Development, or a commitment to obtain it within 12 months of starting.
- Experience supporting people with career, employment, education, training or related decisions.
- The ability to listen carefully,
explain options clearly and help people identify realistic next steps.
- Confidence working with diverse clients and facilitating workshops or group sessions.
- Strong organisation and record-keeping skills, including reliable management of appointments, competing priorities and follow-up. Professional judgement, clear boundaries and a collaborative approach.
- Sound judgement within agreed boundaries. You ask for guidance early when something is unclear and promptly raise risks, complaints or matters outside your authority.
- Clear, respectful communication and a collaborative approach. You share information, accept feedback and take responsibility for agreed actions.
Experience facilitating workshops and knowledge of Western Australia’s vocational education and training sector, the Great Southern labour market and local stakeholder networks will be well regarded.
You must hold a current C/C-A class driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
