The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) is seeking to appoint a School Psychologist for a permanent, part-time (0.6FTE) position at the Midland Learning Academy (MLA), commencing as soon as possible.

The SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools that operates under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. SSEN:BE provides educational support and services with schools for students who present with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a Kindergarden to Year 12 (K-12) context. A continuum of support is delivered through Engagement Centres, the Midland Learning Academy and the Teacher Behaviour Professional Practice team. These services are coordinated through SSEN:BE which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a Statewide model of supports for schools, teachers and students. The services complement other teams working in networks, regions and schools, supporting a greater number of students across the state. Support is available across the public school system.

School psychologists are integral to the work of the SSEN:BE, with qualified leadership and support for the team provided by lead school psychologists, who also coordinate specialised training relevant to the role. SSEN:BE school psychologists provide specialist psychological assessment and evidence-based interventions using a scientist-practioner approach, as well as provide consultation at the individual, group, whole school, and system level. Services are provided in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, behaviour support and intervention, learning and motivation, critical incident management, and risk assessment. Working collaboratively with school staff, parents, and other agencies, SSEN:BE school psychologists play a key role in enhancing student outcomes through the development and implementation of student support services and programs.

SSEN:BE - Midland Learning Academy

The Midland Learning Academy (MLA) is a small, specialist secondary school (Year 7-12) delivering a high-quality public education for students who are experiencing significant challenges to their engagement in a traditional (mainstream) school setting. At MLA, we offer personalised learning experiences and holistic wrap-around supports to successfully re-engage young people with their chosen education, training, or employment pathways. Students are referred to MLA directly from schools, the education regions or through other Statewide Services pathways and specialist schools.

MLA staff work in partnership with the young person and their caregivers to develop personalised pathway plans which incorporate targeted learning and wellbeing needs and are reviewed collaboratively each term. The Role

MLA is seeking a motivated, innovative school psychologist to work alongside the Program Coordinator – Wellbeing, as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the identified needs of students and their families. To be successful for this role you will have exemplary knowledge, experience and skills working with severely disengaged secondary students and their families.

The successful applicant will support the psychological wellbeing of students in culturally responsive, restorative and trauma-wise ways of thinking, being and doing. Key tasks may include:

- contribute to MLA referral and assessment processes
- provide direct psychological support to MLA students and their families
- work with Aboriginal staff to develop and plan for implementation of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework for Aboriginal students (SEWB) at MLA
- engage in direct referral and liaison with culturally safe, external psychological service providers for students and their families
- provide consultation and support as required for complex case management and critical incident management
- liaise with other place-based government agencies providing supports to enrolled students

The successful applicant will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the wider community. An understanding of organisational psychology is desirable. As this position requires the ability to work independently as a psychologist and is of a more specialist nature, you will ideally possess general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
