About the role
Terreco Resources is seeking a C&D; Waste Sorter to join our operations team in Burleigh Heads, QLD. This is a casual position that plays a vital role in our waste management and recycling operations. As a C&D; (Construction and Demolition) Waste Sorter, you will be responsible for sorting, processing and managing construction and demolition waste materials to ensure maximum recycling and recovery of valuable resources. This position is fundamental to our commitment to sustainable waste management practices and environmental responsibility.
Key responsibilities
- Sort and separate construction and demolition waste into appropriate material categories including timber, metals, concrete, brickwork, plastics and other recyclable materials
- Operate and maintain sorting equipment and machinery in accordance with safety guidelines and operational procedures
- Inspect waste materials for hazardous substances and handle contaminated items according to environmental and health and safety regulations
- Stack, store and organise sorted materials in designated areas to optimise storage space and ease of retrieval
- Load and unload waste materials from vehicles using appropriate handling techniques and equipment
- Maintain accurate records of waste processed and materials sorted
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organised and safe work environment
- Report any equipment faults, safety concerns or operational issues to supervisory staff promptly
What we're looking for
- Previous experience in waste management, recycling, construction or a related labour role
- Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks regularly throughout the working day
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately sort and categorise materials
- Commitment to health and safety practices and willingness to comply with all workplace policies
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Basic mathematical skills for record-keeping and material tracking
- Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work varying casual hours as required
- Current or willingness to obtain relevant certifications such as forklift operation, working at heights or hazardous materials handling (preferred)
- Valid driver's licence is advantageous
