About this role
Eagles is looking for an experienced Design Manager to lead the delivery of complex power infrastructure projects across Victoria. Based in Melbourne, you'll take ownership of the entire engineering design lifecycle, guiding multidisciplinary teams from concept development through to Issued for Construction (IFC). Working across major transmission lines, substations and grid connection projects, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring designs are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with client, regulatory and network requirements. This is a rare opportunity to influence some of Australia's most critical energy infrastructure projects while helping shape and strengthen the systems and processes that will support the next phase of growth.
- Take overall design leadership,
coordinating all discipline inputs (electrical primary/secondary, civil, structural, protection & control, HVAC/fire, LV/security, SCADA) into a single, integrated solution.
- Establish and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure, Design Packages, Schedule of Design Deliverables, Master Deliverables/Documents List, and Design Management Plan for each project.
- Implement staged design review (designer QA, internal constructability/cost/systems review, external Client/NSP/independent review) and maintain design issue, risk and comment registers through to close-out.
- Own and chair Safety in Design and HAZID/HAZOP Workshops at each design gate (concept, developed design, IFC), using a structured methodology
- Lead and coordinate Package Managers, discipline leads, and Project Controls per the project organisation chart; support resource planning, capability gaps and staffing across the pipeline.
- Act as principal design point of contact for the Client and Network Service Provider on technical and programme matters, including third-party approval submissions
How you can support Eagles
- Engineering degree (Electrical, Structural or Civil) or related discipline; Chartered status (CPEng/MIEAust or equivalent).
- Min 10+ years in design management or senior design engineering on power system infrastructure, with demonstrated delivery of substation design (AIS/GIS, primary and secondary systems), overhead transmission line design, or comparable complex multidisciplinary infrastructure.
- Proven delivery through staged design gates (Concept/30%, Design Development/80%, IFC) on fee-for-service consultancy engagements, managing Client and Network Service Provider review cycles.
- Working knowledge of applicable AS/NZS standards and utility/NSP functional specifications and approval processes (e.g. ElectraNet or equivalent).
- Demonstrated Safety in Design facilitation and hazard/risk register management.
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary design teams and strong client-facing communication skills
