Tasracing is seeking a Racing Regulatory Veterinarian to join our Tasracing Integrity Unit (TIU) and play a key role in protecting animal welfare, racing integrity and public confidence across thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing.

Why Tasracing?

Tasracing is Tasmania's Principal Racing Authority, responsible for the development, promotion and regulation of the state's racing industry.

The TIU is the integrity body responsible for regulating all three racing codes in Tasmania. As The Racing Regulatory Veterinarian, you'll provide specialist veterinary expertise across the industry, working closely with Stewards, Investigators and Animal Welfare Officers.

You'll have the prospect to influence animal welfare and regulatory standards, provide veterinary advice on prohibited substances and treatment records, support testing programs, contribute to investigations and disciplinary proceedings, and provide expert evidence when required.

You'll also play an important role on race days, providing veterinary oversight including fitness assessments, pre- and post-race inspections, treatment of injured animals and quality assurance of sampling procedures.





It's a role where your clinical expertise, professional judgement and integrity will genuinely matter.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a veterinarian with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Tasmania.

Regulatory experience: You have a sound working knowledge of the Rules of Racing as they apply to prohibited substances and animal welfare, and you're comfortable operating in regulatory or quasi-legal settings. You can form independent, defensible expert opinions and communicate them clearly under scrutiny — whether in a stewards' inquiry, a tribunal, or a written brief.

Clinical experience: You bring hands-on veterinary experience in equine and/or greyhound practice. Experience with racing or performance animals is highly regarded, and will support your ability to make sound, evidence-based welfare and integrity judgements in the field.

You combine strong professional judgement with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and you can hold your position credibly when it's tested.

You'll need a current driver's licence and be comfortable travelling across Tasmanian racing venues and working some race days, evenings and weekends.
