Job description:
What is VAGO?
The Victorian Auditor-General's Office, or VAGO, a passionate team of 225 people led by Auditor-General Andrew Greaves.
Our role is to evaluate how well the public sector is using resources to provide services to the people of Victoria. We do this by engaging with and examining government agencies, and we report to Parliament and the public on what we find.
We also aim to empower the public sector to do things better, and provide detailed recommendations where we see issues or opportunities to improve. At VAGO we see the bigger picture, ask the tough questions and work to create a meaningful impact.
Why we audit
State and local government bodies spend over $90 billion of public money each year to deliver a range of services for all Victorians. We help maintain public trust in the government by enhancing the transparency of, and accountability for, public sector agencies' financial and operational performance.
The Division
Data, AI, Systems Assurance and Digital Audit (DASADA) safeguards the reliability, security, and integrity of the public sector's information systems. The team applies specialist IT audit techniques and targeted analytics to test controls, uncover risks, and validate complex datasets. By providing assurance over both systems and the data they hold, DASADA ensures our audits are backed by accurate, secure, and trustworthy evidence.
What you'll do
As Manager, Systems Assurance at VAGO, you'll provide strategic and technical leadership for our Systems Assurance function, helping deliver high-quality financial audits across the Victorian public sector. Working closely with Financial Audit teams, you'll assess technology environments, identify and respond to technology risks, and ensure audit approaches remain effective in increasingly complex digital environments.
You'll lead Systems Assurance engagements, oversee the evaluation of General IT Controls (GITCs) and other technology controls, and provide technical leadership, coaching and quality assurance to audit teams. You'll build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, providing expert advice on technology risks, governance and controls.
You'll also help shape the future of technology assurance at VAGO by driving innovation, modernising assurance methodologies and advancing our approach to auditing AI-enabled systems, cloud environments and other emerging technologies.
Who we're looking for
You're an experienced IT audit, systems assurance or technology risk professional with a strong background in supporting financial statement audits and assessing technology risks and controls in complex environments.
You bring proven leadership experience, sound technical judgement and the ability to lead multiple engagements while maintaining a strong focus on quality. You're an effective communicator who builds trusted relationships, influences stakeholders and explains complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
You're curious about emerging technologies and motivated to improve the way assurance is delivered. Experience assessing cloud-based, SaaS and AI-enabled environments will be highly regarded.
You'll bring at least five years' experience in IT audit, systems assurance or , technology risk, including a minimum three years' recent leadership experience in a Financial IT Audit or Systems Assurance function. A Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) qualification is required. Qualifications in Information Technology, Accounting or a related discipline, together with additional professional qualifications such as CA ANZ, CPA Australia or qualifications in cyber security or risk management, will be highly regarded.
Don't tick all the boxes? You don't need to tick all the boxes to be amazing. We'd still love to hear from you.
What VAGO can offer you
We are a diverse bunch at VAGO so you'll be part of an organisation where the different backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences of our people are celebrated.
