About Us

Unity Power Engineers is a specialist Electrical Engineering design and consulting business, delivering high-quality engineering services to the heavy industrial, utilities, mining, commercial, and renewable energy sectors across Australia.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Power System Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking power system studies, network analysis, and technical assessments across transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems.

The Role

- Full-time role (40 hours per week)

- Primarily office-based, with flexibility to be assessed based on the successful applicant.

- Based from either our Newcastle (Hamilton, NSW) or Melbourne (Frankston, VIC) office.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform power system modelling and simulation studies including:

- Load flow analysis

- Short-circuit/fault studies

- Protection coordination studies

- Arc flash assessments

- Develop and maintain power system network models.

- Identify system constraints and recommend mitigation measures.

- Assess system performance under normal and contingency operating conditions.

Engineering Design

- Prepare and review Electrical design drawings, diagrams, specifications and calculations as required.

- Support design and selection of Transformers, switchgear, protection relays, cables, OHL and substation equipment as required.

Project Delivery

- Provide engineering support throughout project lifecycles.

- Participate in feasibility studies, concept development, detailed design, commissioning,



and handover activities.

- Review contractor and vendor submissions.

- Ensure projects meet technical, safety, budget, and schedule requirements.

- Contribute to Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.

Renewable Energy & Grid Integration

- Evaluate impacts of solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other distributed energy resources.

- Perform grid connection studies and compliance assessments.

- Support renewable project development and integration activities.

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure compliance with:

- Relevant electrical standards

- Regulatory requirements

- Company policies and procedures

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience (Preferred but not essential)

- 2+ years' experience in power systems engineering.

- Experience performing power system studies and analysis.

- Experience with transmission, distribution, generation, industrial, or renewable energy systems.

- Knowledge of power system protection principles.

Proficiency in one or more of the following (Preferred but not essential)

- PSS®E

- PSCAD

- SKM Power Tools
