Guaranteed annual earnings: $114,766.36 per annum

Transdev WA provides public transport services across Western Australia. Our maintenance teams play an essential role in keeping our bus fleet safe, reliable and available for the communities we serve.
We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Tradesperson Heavy Vehicle / Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our workshop team at our Rockingham WA Bus Depot.
This is a full-time, ongoing position responsible for inspecting, servicing, diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered buses and associated heavy commercial vehicle systems.
About the role
Reporting to the Workshop Manager/Supervisor, you will undertake scheduled and corrective maintenance to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Transdev WA’s bus fleet.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- inspecting, servicing, maintaining and repairing diesel-powered buses and heavy commercial vehicles;
- diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic faults;
- using mechanical and electronic diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults;
- repairing and maintaining diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension and driveline components;
- carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance, vehicle inspections and safety checks;
- dismantling, inspecting, repairing, replacing and reassembling mechanical components;
- testing vehicles, systems and repaired components to confirm safe and effective operation;
- identifying worn, damaged, defective or unsafe vehicle components and completing required repairs;
- conducting breakdown repairs and operational maintenance when required;
- interpreting technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and maintenance instructions;
- completing workshop job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records accurately;
- maintaining workshop tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition;
- complying with workplace health and safety, environmental, quality and operational requirements; and
- contributing to a protected, professional and collaborative workshop environment.
Qualifications and experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate:
- a recognised trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Automotive Mechanical Technology, Diesel Motor Mechanics, or an equivalent relevant qualification;
- demonstrated practical experience inspecting, servicing, diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered heavy vehicles;
- sound working knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension and driveline systems;
- practical mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capability;
- experience using mechanical and electronic diagnostic equipment;
- ability to interpret technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and maintenance documentation;
- ability to complete accurate job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records;
- a strong commitment to workplace health and safety;
- ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team;
- availability to work the advertised rotating roster and rostered Saturday requirements; and
- the ability to satisfy all pre-employment requirements applicable to the position.
Desirable experience and licences
The following will be highly regarded:
- previous experience maintaining buses, coaches, trucks or other heavy commercial fleet vehicles;
- experience with modern heavy vehicle electrical and electronic control systems;
- experience with vehicle air-conditioning or auto-electrical systems;
- manufacturer-specific diagnostic or technical training;
- experience working in a regulated transport, fleet or workshop environment;
- a current Western Australian driver’s licence; and
- a current Heavy Rigid driver’s licence, or the ability and willingness to obtain one.
Employment conditions
The position provides 40 guaranteed hours per week, Monday to Friday. This comprises:
- 38 ordinary hours per week; and
- two guaranteed overtime hours per week, paid at double time.
The following entitlements are paid in addition to guaranteed annual earnings:
- 12% superannuation;
- 17.5% annual leave loading;
- applicable shift allowances;
- payment for rostered Saturday shifts; and
- payment for any additional overtime worked.
This indicative package excludes annual leave loading, Saturday roster payments, additional overtime and any other applicable allowances.
Overtime and penalty payments
Additional overtime and penalty payments apply as follows:
- additional weekday overtime is paid at double time;
- all hours worked on a Saturday are paid at double time;
- all hours worked on a Sunday are paid at double time; and
- all hours worked on a public holiday are paid at time and a half.
Ordinary hours worked after 8:00 pm attract an additional nightshift loading of 20% of the base hourly rate for each eligible hour worked.
The nightshift loading does not apply to voluntary overtime or hours worked on public holidays, Saturdays or Sundays.
Hours and roster
This is a full-time position working 40 guaranteed hours per week,
Monday to Friday.
The roster rotates weekly between:
- Early shift: 5:00 am to 1:30 pm; and
- Late shift: 10:00 am to 6:30 pm.
Employees rotate between the early and late shift each week.
A rostered Saturday shift is ordinarily required approximately once every six weeks. All hours worked on the rostered Saturday are paid at double time.
Applicants must be available to work both weekly shift patterns and participate in the rostered Saturday arrangement.
