SES Band 1 Opportunity - General Manager, National Operations
We are seeking an exceptional First Nations executive to join our Executive Leadership Team during a period of significant organisational transformation.
This role will play a critical part in shaping the future of the organisation as it evolves into a nationally integrated First Nations mobility, accommodation and wellbeing organisation.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board and Executive Leadership Team, successful candidates will provide strategic leadership that strengthens organisational capability, improves service delivery and expands opportunities for First Nations people and communities.
The General Manager, National Operations will lead the organisation's national operational service delivery functions, providing strategic and operational leadership across a geographically dispersed network.
The role will drive operational excellence, service innovation, partnership development and sustainable growth while strengthening pathways that connect First Nations people to health, education, employment, wellbeing and community support.
This position will help lead organisational transformation, strengthen capability, improve outcomes for First Nations people and communities, and build a culture of accountability, inclusion and continuous improvement.
About Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL)
Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is a not-for-profit Commonwealth company that has provided culturally safe and affordable accommodation for First Nations people since ****.
AHL operates a national network of 42 hostels across Australia, supporting First Nations people who need to travel away from home to access education, employment, healthcare and other essential services.




AHL is entering a significant period of transformation and growth.
Supported by an engaged Board and executive team, the organisation is developing a new ten-year strategy that will guide its future direction and broaden its impact.
The strategy seeks to position AHL as Australia's leading First Nations mobility, accommodation and wellbeing organisation, enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to thrive wherever they move for health, education, employment, safety or opportunity.
Alongside this work, AHL is modernising systems and processes, strengthening workforce capability and reimagining service delivery to meet the evolving needs of First Nations communities across Australia.
The key duties of the position include:
Successful candidate will contribute to:
Driving transformational change that expands opportunity and improves outcomes for First Nations people and communities.
Building high-performing teams, systems and services that support First Nations people to thrive through health, education, employment and chance.
Providing strategic leadership and advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Board and Executive Leadership Team.
Leading organisational transformation, reform and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strengthening organisational capability, leadership capacity and workforce performance.
Building and maintaining effective relationships with First Nations communities, government agencies, service providers and key stakeholders.
Championing cultural safety,



inclusion and accountability across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
Lead national operational service delivery across a geographically dispersed network.
Drive operational excellence, service innovation and service delivery improvement.
Develop strategic partnerships and referral pathways across health, education, employment, justice and community sectors.
Strengthen operational performance, workforce capability and community outcomes.
Eligibility

Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
