About the Role
Reporting to the Director Operations and under broad guidance, the Senior Investigator is responsible for the conduct of complex investigations into allegations of corrupt conduct, using the full range of investigative methodologies, including coercive powers available under the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act **** (Cth) (NACC Act).
The key duties of the position include:
Lead the planning and ongoing management of corruption investigations, including record keeping, to ensure robust and timely outcomes.
Facilitate effective working relationships within a multidisciplinary team environment, comprising investigators, intelligence analysts, lawyers, and other specialists.
Undertake and/or assist in all relevant investigative activities, including:
identify relevant lines of enquiry and prepare investigation plans for complex investigations.
collect evidence including drafting decision minutes and NACC Act notices, preparing affidavits to obtain warrants, and conducting interviews.
oversee the analysis of large and complex data sets of information.
preparing investigation reports, obtaining witness statements, hearing briefs and briefs of evidence, and giving evidence in court.
Provide advice to the Commissioner and senior executives of the NACC in relation to the ongoing progress and outcomes of corruption investigations.
Ensure effective working relationships and governance of investigations being jointly undertaken with partner agencies.




Represent the interests of the NACC and helping manage the NACC's relationships with relevant stakeholders including other Australian Government agencies, State and Territory representatives and the private sector as necessary.
Lead by example and develop, coach and mentor more junior staff. This may include direct line management of APS6 investigators.
Undertake and contribute to the continuous improvement of the investigative function within the NACC, including; developing, reviewing, evaluating and implementing relevant policies, procedures, processes, tools and best practices.
Lead and exemplify a healthy and safe working environment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct.
On occasion, undertake travel throughout Australia (including regional and remote areas), as operationally required.
The NACC is a small agency. In addition to these activities, from time to time you may be asked to undertake tasks that are outside your usual span of duties but that are within the range of your capabilities. Supporting one another in this way provides opportunities for exposure across the agency and is an integral part of the NACC's positive workplace culture.
Eligibility
Employment with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is subject to the following conditions:
Citizenship –
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
Security Clearance –
This is a Designated Security Assessment Position (DSAP). The occupant of this position must obtain and retain an AGSVA security clearance to the specified level.
Suitability assessment –
The NACC must be satisfied that successful applicants are of suitable character. They must undergo a rigorous pre-employment suitability screening process that can be intrusive in nature including (but not limited to) detailed background, character, employment, police,



and financial checks.
Probation -
A probation period will apply to any new ongoing engagement to the Australian Public Service.
Eligibility (Prescribed Qualifications)/Other Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
Diploma in Government Investigations (or the ability to obtain within 12 months of commencement).
Legal background will be highly regarded but not essential.
Undertake any necessary training as required from time to time pertaining to the exercising of powers as an Authorised Officer under the NACC Act or other requirements of the role.
Due to the nature of the role, you may at times be exposed to objectionable/undesirable material, either directly or indirectly and must be aware of this possibility.
You may be required to occasionally work outside of the core hours, including weekends.

The NACC provides a service allowance of $2,039 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) to non-SES employees which acknowledges the special requirements of working at the NACC. This includes the need for high-level personal security assessments, the intrusion associated with notifying private financial and social interests and the necessity to engage in practices to prevent targeting by unlawful elements.
