As the Senior Urban Designer at Yarra Ranges Council, you will provide clear and practical urban design advice that supports good planning, strong publicspacesandwell-designedplaces across the municipality. You will review planning referrals, development proposals and project material, assess design impacts, and prepare written advice,recommendationsand visual material to support decision-making.
In this role, you will help shape urban design policies, strategies, context reports,masterplansand design frameworks. You will use your design judgement toidentifyissues and opportunities, explain options in plain language, and support outcomes that improve liveability, movement, built form, publicspacesand the character of local places.
This is a Band 7 role, with an hourly rate between $***** and $*****.
This role is12-monthtemporary full time position (parental leave backfill).
Experience and skillswe'relooking for
Knowledge of urban design, architecture, landscapearchitectureor a related field, with a strong understanding of built form, public spaces,movementand place outcomes.
Experience in reviewing planning referrals, development proposals or project material andprovidingpractical design advice.
Experience in preparing clear written recommendations, technical comments, reports, briefing notes or supporting material for decision-makers.
The ability to use design software and presentation tools to communicate options,constraintsand preferred approaches.
The ability to explain technical design matters clearly to people withdifferent levelsof design knowledge.




The ability to work with consultants, project teams and stakeholders to confirm requirements, resolve issues and meet agreedtimeframes.
The ability to assess information,identifydesign issues and opportunities, and make evidence-based recommendations.
