Agilent Technologies is a global leader in life sciences, diagnostics, and applied chemical markets, providing laboratories worldwide with instruments, services, consumables, applications, and expertise. Their Mulgrave technology centre — Agilent's Spectroscopy hub for Australia — is a state-of-the-art R&D; and manufacturing facility, designing and building instruments trusted by scientists across environmental, food, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors globally.
Agilent is Great Place to Work Certified in Australia, part of a broader global recognition of its people-first culture.
The Opportunity
Agilent's Spectroscopy Product Line is looking for a Hardware Quality and Test Engineer to join its Hardware Test Labs in Mulgrave.
This is a hands-on, dual-focus role spanning Quality Engineering — ensuring products are designed and manufactured to meet company and customer standards — and Test Engineering, providing hardware testing support to certify product designs against EMC, environmental, reliability, and product safety standards (including IEC *****).
Step into Agilent's world-class Hardware Quality and Test team, delivering safety and reliability testing for spectroscopy instruments trusted by laboratories worldwide. You'll join on an 18-month contract, with a clear and active pathway to a permanent position — a great opportunity to build your career within a well-resourced, high-impact engineering environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Conduct hands-on safety testing and contribute to CPC (product certification) audits and programs
Test and evaluate products and assemblies against corporate, regulatory, and safety requirements
Define, implement, and verify test methods, procedures, limits, and set-ups

Design custom test fixtures for reliability testing
Troubleshoot test failures, determine root cause, and recommend engineering solutions
Generate technical reports and present findings to relevant teams
Maintain test equipment and machinery to minimise downtime, including calibration scheduling
Collaborate with R&D; to define test plans covering performance, life, reliability, and design margin testing
Support ISO ***** lab compliance, with the opportunity to work toward qualified signatory status for safety test releases
Plan and manage incoming equipment schedules for testing
About You
Engineering background in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or Optical Engineering — a relevant Bachelor's degree is preferred, though exceptional candidates with strong equivalent experience will be considered
Hands-on experience conducting safety tests, ideally within a formal test lab environment (experience in an ISO *****-accredited lab highly regarded)
Exposure to, or understanding of, CPC (product certification) audits and programs
EMC testing knowledge is a strong plus
A genuine quality-driven mindset, with a solid understanding of safety standards and compliance
Prior exposure to spectroscopy or vacuum products is highly regarded, but not essential
Comfortable in a 100% on-site, lab-based role
Candidates without local Australian work experience are welcomed
Permanent working rights in Australia are required — visa sponsorship is not available for this role
This is a chance to build your career with a global leader in scientific instrumentation, known for a people-first culture, within a collaborative, hands-on engineering setting at Agilent's state-of-the-art Mulgrave technology centre.
