SMSF Auditor
Full-time | Office-based | Erskineville, NSW
About the role
An established accounting and SMSF audit practice is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented SMSF Auditor to join its growing team in Erskineville, NSW.
This is a full-time, office-based position. The successful applicant must be comfortable working within an office environment and collaborating directly with other team members.
Current registration as an ASIC-approved SMSF auditor is not required. However, applicants must have practical SMSF audit experience and be willing and able to work towards obtaining the qualifications and experience required to become a registered SMSF auditor.
The role will primarily involve SMSF audit work but may also include preparing or processing SMSF financial statements and annual tax returns.
Key responsibilities
Conduct SMSF audit work in accordance with applicable legislation, auditing standards and regulatory requirements.
Review SMSF financial statements, investment records and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Identify and document audit findings, contraventions and matters requiring client attention or remediation.
Prepare audit working papers, management letters and other audit documentation.
Assist with the preparation and processing of SMSF financial statements and annual tax returns where required.
Verify fund asset valuations, member contributions, benefit payments and transaction records.
Review investments, related-party transactions and other compliance matters against relevant SMSF legislation.
Liaise professionally with accountants, trustees and clients to request information and resolve audit queries.
Maintain complete and accurate audit working papers to support audit conclusions.
Manage assigned work efficiently and meet relevant lodgement and audit deadlines.
Remain informed about changes to superannuation legislation, taxation requirements and auditing standards.
Undertake relevant study, training and professional development towards becoming a registered SMSF auditor.
Contribute to improvements in audit procedures, internal systems and quality-control processes.
What we're looking for
Previous practical experience in SMSF auditing is essential.
A genuine commitment and ability to work towards becoming an ASIC-registered SMSF auditor.
Sound knowledge of the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act and Regulations and general SMSF compliance requirements.
Experience reviewing SMSF financial statements, supporting documents and investment records.
Familiarity with auditing standards and procedures applicable to SMSF audits.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies, compliance issues and missing documentation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Valuable written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Ability and willingness to work full-time in an office-based setting in Erskineville.
Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, CA or an equivalent qualification are preferred.
Applicants who are currently working towards a relevant professional qualification may also be considered.
Knowledge of taxation principles relating to superannuation and SMSFs is desirable.
Experience preparing or processing SMSF annual tax returns is desirable.
Experience using
BGL Simple Fund 360
and/or
Class Super
is highly regarded.
Experience with accounting software and electronic audit working-paper systems is also preferred.
