National Patient Transport
Western Australia
Coordinate patient transport crews across metro Perth.
Monday to Friday, early starts, no night shift.
Full training provided from day one.
Someone has to decide who goes where.
A dialysis patient is waiting.
A hospital coordinator wants a bed cleared before midday.
Two crews are forty minutes from the end of their shift and a transfer has come in on the other side of the river.
Somebody works out how that fits together, and then does it again twenty minutes later.
That is dispatch.
Monday to Friday, starting from ****, no night shift, and you finish knowing exactly what you achieved that day.
About National Patient Transport
We are Australia's leading non-emergency patient transport provider, 31 years in, around 900 people across Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, and part of the ComfortDelGro Australia group.
Our WA operation runs from Canning Vale and supports health services right across metropolitan Perth.
About the role
You work in the Communications Centre and hold the operational picture for the day: vehicles, crews, bookings, delays, and the constant small negotiations that keep patients moving.
You are the voice crews hear on the radio, and the person hospital coordinators call when something has to change.
You will be trained across the Communications Centre.
Calltaking comes first, because you cannot dispatch work you do not understand, and it teaches you the booking systems, the clinical language and the hospital relationships from the ground up.
Dispatch training follows.
Reporting to the Operations Centre Team Leader.
What you will be doing
Allocating vehicles to patient bookings and sequencing the day's work so crews stay productive and unloaded kilometres stay low
Prioritising by clinical acuity, transport mode, patient need and time pressure, then reprioritising when the day changes on you
Planning several hours ahead so crews receive their next case before they finish the current one
Running the radio and dispatch phone: succinct, skilled, and calm when the person on the other end is not
Keeping hospital coordinators updated on arrival times and delays
Taking and processing booking requests accurately, applying the right transport type, cost centre and contract requirements
Monitoring crew breaks, shift finish times and welfare across the day
Escalating conduct, safety and resourcing issues to your Team Leader rather than absorbing them
Completing an accurate shift report at the end of every shift
What you need
Confident computer skills and the ability to work across several systems at once.
We use a Computer Aided Dispatch platform alongside scheduling, rostering and email tools
Touch typing at 35 words per minute or better, with high accuracy.
This one is not negotiable, and we will check it
Clear verbal and written communication, and genuine listening skills
The ability to hold your judgement under sustained pressure and high call volume
Sound sense of what you handle yourself and what you escalate
Comfort working to documented policies and clinical protocols in a healthcare setting
Availability Monday to Friday with early starts from ****
Experience coordinating people, vehicles or resources in real time will put you ahead.
Emergency services dispatch, fleet or logistics control, transport scheduling, or a health or emergency call centre all translate well.
So does any role where you have had to keep twelve things moving and tell someone honestly that the thirteenth will have to wait.
What will put you in front
Experience as a Calltaker or Dispatcher in patient transport or ambulance services
Certificate II or III in Emergency Calltaking and Dispatch
Working knowledge of medical terminology
Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport, Patient Care Assistance, or a related health qualification
Current first aid certificate
