First Focus
Canberra
Let's be honest. Canberra IT can be a bit... predictable.
Some days you are in a shiny Barton office fixing a dock that mysteriously decide overnight that there are no such things as "monitors". Other days you are driving across the lake because someone swears the internet "just disappeared". Occasionally you end up in a building with no signage and security that politely pretends you were expected. And every now and then you end up at a government building that looks like it was designed by someone who really liked concrete.
If that sounds like your kind of day, we should probably talk.
First Focus is looking for a
Field Support Technician in the Canberra region
who enjoys the variety, autonomy and client relationships that come with life in the field.
About First Focus
First Focus is Australia's best mid-market Managed Service Provider. Not just according to us either,
Cloudtango has ranked us the #1 MSP in Australia for eight years running
.
We have been around for more than
15 years
, and these days there are
360+ of us across Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines
. Despite that growth we have tried very hard not to become one of those companies where everything feels like a process and nobody laughs anymore.
We hire good people, give them interesting work, and trust them to get on with it.
One of our core values is
Live Curiously
, which basically means asking questions, sharing knowledge, and always looking for a better way to do things. If you are the kind of person who likes figuring things out rather than just following a script, you will probably enjoy it here.

Why this role is actually fun
Field roles can be the best jobs in IT if they are done properly.
You get out from behind the headset.
You meet real people.
You see real environments.
You solve real problems.
And most importantly,
every day is a little bit different
.
Some days you will knock out five quick fixes before lunch. Other days you will spend half the afternoon figuring out why a network that "has always worked perfectly" suddenly decided it does not want to anymore.
The good news is you are never doing it alone. Our field engineers work closely with
Service Desk, Engineers and Technical Account Managers
, so when something interesting turns up there are always smart people around to bounce ideas off.
What you will be doing
In this role you will:
Provide
onsite desktop and infrastructure support
to clients across the Canberra region
Troubleshoot issues across desktops, servers and networks
Assist with
project deployments and rollouts
Install and configure
servers, networking gear and other infrastructure
Work with experienced
Engineers and Technical Account Managers
to maintain great client environments
Build strong relationships with the people you support
Many of our field techs end up becoming the person clients call first when something strange happens.
Which in IT, is quite often.
What you will need
We are looking for someone who is technically capable but also good with people.
You will ideally bring:
Solid experience with
Microsoft AD, Exchange, Azure and Microsoft 365
General
networking knowledge
Strong troubleshooting skills
Great written and spoken communication
Good organisation and time management
Experience working for an
IT service provider or MSP
(nice to have)
A vehicle and full driver's licence
(required)
Ability to obtain
Australian Government security clearance
is helpful but not essential
Competitive salary package including
up to $100k + other benefits
Free access to
Uprise
, including 1:1 coaching with qualified psychologists or counsellors
Flexible working options that support work-life balance
Never Stop Growing
, with up to
10 paid training days each year
, certification support and salary increases for completed certifications (conditions apply)
Weekly internal training sessions and a large learning library
Our
FastTrack mentoring program
The
MAD (Making a Difference) Council
focused on equality, charity and the environment
Tesla company car option (conditions apply)
Regular social events and a genuinely great team culture
First Focus welcomes applications from Neurodiverse candidates. We recommend & appreciate disclosure along with the application so that a copy of our Neurodiversity Statement can be provided outlining the versatile options we can offer to best showcase your skills.
A final thought
The best field engineers are the ones who enjoy the mix of
technology and people
.
If you like solving problems, meeting interesting clients, and occasionally driving across Canberra to fix something that turned out to be a loose cable... this role might suit you perfectly.
