Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registrar to join our Cairns Aeromedical team.
RFDS supports training towards Fellowship with ACEM, ACRRM, ANZCA and CICM. Senior Registrars work closely with their Medical Lead to develop an individualised training plan that ensures learning opportunities and on-the-job experiences are broad, relevant, and aligned with their chosen specialty.
Our Cairns and Mt Isa bases are accredited by ACEM to offer DipPHRM training in retreival medicine as well as a
TS4 accredited
Speciality Skills Post towards ACEM Fellowship.
As an Aeromedical Doctor, you'll respond to emergencies and provide critical retrieval services using state-of-the-art aircraft set up like mobile intensive care units. From pre-hospital care to critical retrievals, every flight is an opportunity to use your clinical expertise to make a difference in patients' lives while delivering high-level care in challenging environments.
In this role, you will:
Provide telehealth services to patients needing urgent medical care in remote locations
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) taskings including- emergency retrievals and inter-facility transfers
Liaise with RSQ, Duty Tasking Officers and referring/receiving facilities to coordinate aeromedical retrievals
Conduct handovers to care providers
Provide advice to nurses and other health professionals
Participate in quality improvement activities such as clinical audits and case reviews
Maintain accurate medical records
Contribute to the overall strategic goals of the RFDS (QLD Section)
Respect cultural diversity including the traditional Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, view of health.

Who are we looking for?
To be successful in the role you will need:
Registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
Minimum five years post-grad experience
Senior Registrar on a pathway towards Fellowship of ACEM, ACRRM, ANZCA or CICM
Sufficient experience in critical care medicine to meet credentialing requirements with QLD Health (at least 6 months of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Paediatrics experience)
Previous experience in Aeromedical Retrieval is ideal but not required.

Please note:
Successful candidates will be subject to checks including medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence and obtain an ASIC Card. You will also be required to successfully complete the RFDS credentialing process and your application may be subject to review by a representative from Queensland Health. Prior to the appointment, you will be required to provide copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against VPD.
