GMB Water is a progressive regional water utility committed to delivering safe, reliable water and wastewater services to its communities. With significant investment underway, including a major current wastewater treatment plant, the organisation is focused on continuous improvement, innovation and creating a safe, collaborative workplace where people are empowered to make a meaningful impact.

The Opportunity

GMB Water is investing in the future, and with the Board identifying health and safety as a strategic priority, they're creating a brand-new WHS Coordinator position to lead the next stage of their safety journey. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will provide specialist WHS advice and support across the organisation while leading the ongoing implementation and continuous improvement of GMB Water's WHS Management System. This is a hands-on role with the autonomy to shape how safety is delivered across the organisation and make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

- Continuous improvement of the WHS Management System across the organisation.
- Partnering with managers and operational teams to develop practical safety documentation, procedures and safe work practices.
- Supporting high-risk operational activities including wastewater treatment, confined space work and contractor management.
- Conducting workplace inspections, audits and contractor site walkarounds.
- Leading incident investigations, hazard management and corrective actions.
- Delivering WHS training, inductions and safety initiatives.
- Managing return to work coordination and legislative compliance.

- Preparing WHS reporting for the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
- Driving a proactive, collaborative safety culture focused on continuous improvement rather than policing compliance.

Skills and Experience

You're a practical WHS professional who enjoys building relationships and influencing positive change. You will also bring:

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
- Experience within high-risk industries such as Utilities, Construction, Energy, Mining or similar operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and safety systems.
- Experience implementing and improving WHS management systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to present to senior leaders and Board members.
- Strong computer literacy and reporting capability.
- The ability to identify opportunities for improvement and independently drive initiatives through to completion.

Why Join GMB Water?

- Brand-new position with genuine autonomy to make it your own.
- Supportive leadership team committed to improving workplace safety.
- Opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure projects, including a major new wastewater treatment plant.
- Adaptable working arrangements available.
- RDOs on offer.
- Income protection insurance.

If you're looking for a role where you can influence culture, partner with operational teams and genuinely shape the future of safety within a close knit team, we'd love to hear from you.
