Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) is seeking an experienced Media & Communications Manager to join our Strategic Communications team on a 12-month parental leave contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting and enhancing the reputation of Australia’s largest regional airport operator, supporting communications across Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports.

Carly joined Queensland Airports Pty Ltd (QAL) in 2022 as a Strategic Communications Executive. Carly shares her unique experience of working at QAL:

“I enjoy working at QAL because every day is different. The aviation industry is a dynamic and fast-paced working environment, and the team is passionate about what we do. Airports are exciting workplaces that facilitate valuable connections for people and communities and being a part of that is something I find really rewarding. I also love having the ability to work across QAL’s four airports, providing a valuable opportunity to foster connections with team members across all areas of the business as well as in the communities where we operate”

How will you make an impact?

Reporting to the General Manager Strategic Communications, you will lead the development and delivery of integrated communication strategies that support QAL’s corporate objectives and stakeholder relationships. You will manage media relations, internal communications, content development, social media, stakeholder engagement and issues management, while also providing guidance and support to the Media & Communications Coordinator.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, confident and capable communications professional with strong judgement, excellent writing skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment.

Aviation, tourism or infrastructure industry experience will be highly regarded.

Key deliverables/responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and delivering clear, consistent and engaging communications across a diverse range of channels and audiences. Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Managing media engagement, including drafting responses, briefing executives and coordinating traditional and social media opportunities.
- Building strong relationships with media, industry partners, tourism organisations, stakeholders, agencies and internal teams.
- Supporting stakeholder engagement activities including community updates, partnerships and events.
- Optimising QAL’s sponsorships and facilitating partnership deliverables.
- Supporting crisis and issues management through timely, considered and professional communication advice.

How we support you?

At Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), we believe work should support life, not compete with it. Through our Living Well approach, we offer flexible working options for all roles, wellbeing initiatives and a supportive culture so our people can thrive both professionally and personally.

As we continue to grow and transform, we encourage versatile ways of working and open conversations about how work fits alongside life.

We also invest in our people through learning, mentoring and career pathways across our four airports.

What we’ve built together:

At QAL, our people connect communities. We own and operate Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports, linking the Gold Coast, northern New South Wales and regional Queensland with the rest of Australia and the world.

More than 8 million passengers travel through our airports each year, supported by teams working together to create safe, welcoming and efficient experiences. Our vision is to be the first-choice gateway for our regions, creating valuable connections and inspiring a sustainable future.

We’re committed to an inclusive and psychologically safe workplace where people feel valued, supported and encouraged to be themselves. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.

QAL is a WORK180 Endorsed Employer, independently recognised for supporting long‑term careers, flexibility, wellbeing and equal opportunity. Learn more about working at QAL here.
