Parks Maintenance Operator
Permanent, Full Time Opportunity
$65,000 – $79,000 inclusive of adverse working allowance + up to 15% Superannuation
9-day Fortnight (enjoy every second Friday off!)
Ever worked in a parks team that just runs well?
If you’re the kind of person who enjoys seeing a park look better because you were there, this role will feel right at home.
We’re looking for operators who take pride in their work, enjoy being outdoors, and like being part of a team that runs smoothly, communicates well, and gets the job done safely and properly. If you’ve worked in parks, landscaping, turf or open space maintenance, you already know how much difference a well-organised crew makes and that’s exactly what you’ll find here.
This is a stable, well-supported team with clear routines, planned maintenance programs, and leadership that sets you up for success. You’ll have structure, reliable equipment, and a crew that works together.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your day starts with a pre-start meeting — clear plan, clear priorities, and a coordinated team.
From there, you’ll be out across the City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes, carrying out:
- Mowing, pruning, planting, mulching and weed control
- Operating tractors, trucks, ride-on mowers, spray units and small plant
- Horticultural and landscaping tasks including earthworks, raking, digging, watering and general maintenance
- Supporting scheduled maintenance programs and responding to reactive works
- Keeping public spaces clean, safe and well-presented for the community
- Working safely and contributing to a strong safety culture
If you enjoy variety, you’ll love the flexible roster — tractors one day, spray unit the next, mowers and small plant when needed.
Who This Role Suits
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Takes pride in maintaining parks, reserves or open spaces
- Enjoys hands-on outdoor work and being part of a reliable team
- Has experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, horticulture or turf management
- Is confident using power tools, mowers, whipper snippers and small plant
- Has experience operating tractors, trucks or spray units (advantageous)
- Works safely, communicates well and likes a structured environment
If you’re the kind of operator who notices the details, keeps equipment tidy, and enjoys seeing a job done properly, you’ll fit right in.
Why You'll Love It
It’s the combination of structure, support, and teamwork that makes the difference.
You’ll have:
- 76-hour fortnight with a regular RDO every second Friday
- Permanent, stable local government employment
- Up to 15% superannuation
- Free fitness centre membership (gym, pool, sauna, classes)
- Study assistance & career development
- 17.5% annual leave loading + flexible leave options
- A team that values safety, communication and doing things right
What You’ll Need
- Current MR Class Driver's Licence
- Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Ability to obtain a National Police Certificate
- Experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, turf management or similar outdoor work
Desirable
- Chainsaw competency certificate
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) certification
- First Aid certificate
- Horticulture or Turf qualification
