- Salary Range: $72,455.97 - $78,368.99 pro rata, plus superannuation

About the role

The Carer Peer Support Worker is based within the Mental Health Acute Inpatient Unit (MHAIU) and brings the unique perspective of supporting a family member, partner, or friend experiencing the provision of treatment within an acute mental health inpatient unit.

Drawing on their own lived experience of caring and recovery, they will provide peer support, advocacy, education, and system navigation for families and carers while promoting hope, inclusion, and recovery-oriented practice. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the Carer Lived Experience Worker acts as a voice for carers, contributes to service improvement, and supports the development of family-sensitive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices within the MHAIU.

What you bring





- Personal experience of being a carer for a person who has accessed public mental health services.
- The ability to meaningfully and appropriately draw on your personal experiences to support other families and carers who's loved ones are being treated in the MHAIU.
- A warm, approachable, and accepting attitude, demonstrating behaviours aligned with South West Healthcare's values and the principles of peer work.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including computer literacy.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or equivalent qualification), or at least 12 months experience in a LLEW role is desirable.
