Located just 15km from the heart of Townsville, Sun Metals operates one of the world's most advanced zinc refineries. We produce high-quality Special High Grade Zinc and Zinc Alloy, along with valuable by-products including Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium and Zinc Ferrite.

About the Role
This permanent, full-time role is responsible for providing senior health and safety advice and support across the refinery, driving continuous improvement in health and safety performance and ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
Working Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work as required, you will partner with leaders and employees to manage day-to-day health and safety matters, lead safety initiatives and contribute to maintaining Sun Metals' reputation as a world leader in zinc refining.
About You
You will need to meet the following selection criteria.
Essential
- Significant experience as a Health and Safety professional within a refinery, mining, manufacturing or other heavy industrial environment.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or related discipline (Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Queensland Work Health and Safety legislative framework and the ability to apply legislative requirements within an industrial workplace.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and continuously improving Health and Safety Management Systems, including associated procedures and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience across a broad range of health and safety disciplines, including:
- Risk Management
- Incident Investigation
- Management of Change (MoC)
- Occupational Hygiene
- Ergonomics
- Proven experience developing, implementing and supporting health and safety initiatives that improve organisational performance.
- Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and influence positive safety outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in the field and in an office environment.
- High level computer literacy.
Desirable
- Knowledge and practical experience using occupational hygiene monitoring equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- ICAM Lead Investigator qualification or equivalent incident investigation training and experience.
- Auditor qualification and experience conducting health and safety audits.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Emergency Response experience.
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work qualifications and/or experience.
